hey, recording is awsome, i like the song too.what kind of equipment are you using? must take you while to record, everything is right on, very professional.

I picked up this tune a couple days ago....

And I haven't been able to get it out of my head since! ;) I love the lyrics.

Great stuff! Very, very cleanly performed and produced. A friend of mine exclaimed "Wow! That sounds like it was professionally recorded!" (I was using it as bait to get him to check out this BBS.) What are you recording with? I'm quite curious.

After being blown away for a day or so, I started to listen more critically. There are a couple places where the synths sounds kinda stand out too much to my ears.

:31-:37- a little synth accent that, to my ears, doesn't sit into the mix- just a tad too up front.

1:27- this little break sounds good but also doesn't quite sit into it. Sounds a little digital or dry- I can't tell which. I think I want to hear each chord swell in volume.

Also, the ending seemed to lack dynamic...slightly. Its in character with the synthy sound- Like I can hear what you were going for but it doesn't quite have enough "Uumph!" Maybe its just the hard rocker in me rearing its ugly head...

That was listening through an Alesis Studio 24 and Event PS-6 powered monitors. I also played it through my stereo (with decent consumer speakers) and everything meshed together better.

Thanks for putting this stuff up. It inspired me me revisit some of the mixes I've been playing with the past week and touch them up. ;)

Take care,
Chris

Incredible.

Yeah there were a few points as mentioned above where there were some digitalish snaps, but...shit!
Beatlesqe sounds, hooks, melody, it really has a lot going on. Your voice seemed like ghosts of Lennon and McCartney switching off on words withi a phrase. Really really great stuff. Not sure which song I like better now, I didn't think it would be as good as the first one you posted, but it just might be. Anxiously awaiting more, Macle...

Hi iravage,
Thanks very much! I have Emu Paris. I don't spend too much time on the actual recording and arranging, it was all pretty off the cuff (the bass and guitars and stuff, the keyboard stuff takes longer because I don't record it directly in, I have to arrange it in Logic first, and then import it in, which is really annoying).

I suppose I spend the most time on mixing as that's where it becomes a real guessing game, trying to make things seem better, tweaking and balancing and EQing and all that, especially since I have a tendency to put in too much stuff), and then listening to CDs and going, shit!, why doesn't it sound like that?!?, and then remixing again.

Thanks very much, I really appreciate it,
Macle

Wow Chris, thanks a lot! I hear what you're saying about those bits. I really hate using samples for things like cellos, or whatever, cuz I find it really difficult to make them sound really the way I would want. I was actually thinking of getting a real cello, and playing the parts, cuz they're pretty simple, and maybe that would give it a cooler sound and feel. Thought I might give it a shot anyway, but cellos are pretty expensive!

Anyway, thanks very much, very glad you dug/dig it, and glad it inspired you back. That's a great compliment.

Thanks again,
Macle

Alright! Thanks rats. That is really great to hear!! A comparison to Lennon AND McCartney is too much. I really really appreciate it. I can die now.

Thanks again,

I'm starting to think you're related to that World Party guy, Macle. Great production, as usual, but your other little ditty still has my preference (somewhat of a musical diabetic; can't have too much of the sweet stuff)...

Who's it about? Everyone prolly has their own collective idea on this one, but I don't think you meant it that way. Too good of a song for that particular topic...

;)

Soudns really good to me, I'm quite impressed. The synth parts really osund like synths, which is cool if thats what you wanted.
Otherwise, its great. Good song, good recording, very professional.

Damn girl....... 5........ that must have been a blast growing up.

And one brother -who bangs on my bedroomwall if I'm singing too loud.

I have to go now. I can only use the computer for 5 minutes at a time:)

I have the evil sister who bangs on the wall if I do anything at all that makes noise. God love the 80 hours a week she works.

Thanks Jake!!

I don't really want the synth parts to sound like synths. Will have to figure something out, or maybe lose them altogether. Hmmm...

Thanks very much for listening, I really appreciate it,

Hi Kelly, thanks a lot!!! I'm curious what you mean by "meant it that way" and "that particular topic". Please fill me in.

Thanks again for listening,

Yeah! best of the BBS

I liked it so much I forwarded the page to all my friends who think I'm good. Now they will know me for the hack that I am :-)

One Comment. They are no tags in you MP3s. Tag Tag Tag:D

at first I thought the vocals sounded a bit like lennon, then I read the post which compared it to oasis and realised it was a cross between liam gallacher and lennon! Very cool. The production does sound a bit like noel gallacher's, pretty crisp on the pc speakers. Also some nice touches and a cool song. Well done again, though I think I'm with kelly when it comes to my preference. :)
