Here's a tough one about soundcards/interfaces...ASIO drivers and such...

what is this?
Okay, so here's the deal. Let me know if I need to move this into the Noob section, I just figured this would be the best place for the topic... :o

When I got my Cubase system started last April, I bought a Tascam FW1804 interface. I ALSO got an Emu 1212m and installed them both.

Now the problem is this... I like my Emu card a little because it has a DSP processor on it, I know that it doesn't help with any aftermarket plugs, but it came with some of it's own. I got it to upgrade the built in soundcard that came on the mobo, not as a recording interface. It just so happens that since I have 2 interfaces and consequently 2 ASIO drivers respectively, my system gets confused sometimes. Normally when I open Cubase (SL3.0), it recognizes the FW drivers and starts fine. Sometimes however it reverts to the Emu drivers, and nothing works because I don't have anything plugged into it. Outside of Cubase, all the sound is routed through the Emu card, and since I don't have my monitors plugged into it, there is no sound.

Is there any way possible for these two to interact harmoniously? By that I mean all I want my Emu for is the DSP processing when I use the Emu effects plugin, while the FW acts as my soundcard and everything audio gets routed to it through Firewire. Is this possible? If not, would anyone like to get an Emu 1212m? :D

Many thanks to anyone with the patience to read through and respond! ;)

You can't use two soundcards simultaneously with ASIO drivers. It's an ASIO limitation.

Okay then, so technically speaking, if I remove my Emu soundcard everything will be copasetic?

I just want to have a system that I can record on, and listen back when not in Cubase. If it means ditching the Emu I can do that, no questions asked.

Yes, if you remove the emu card everything should be copasetic.

Google for ASIO4ALL. V2 is supposed to provide support for multiple interfaces

With the ASIO4ALL drivers you can run several asio compatible cards at the same Time but if the 2 Devices aren"t synced up Via Wordclock you might experience Sync problems and even Latency problems.....It is worth a Try though as the Driver is Freeware....

Cheers

You might also consider simply disabling your Emu on the hardware list. Save some hassle and just as effective.

How about running the adat out of the FW into the emu
