ok here is the deal, ATM im making songs to use on a vocal demo to start shopping for a band here in LA. I play guitar and a little base.

I have fruityloops 3.5 for all my drum making needs.

I have guitarport running to cakewalk home studio 2004 XL

So I can make basic recording and whatnot and Im fairly happy.

I do not have a mic or anything needed to record my vocals into homestudio.

This is where I get confused.

If Im in the bedroom of my apartment and I sing like TOOL/AFI/STP ish what kind of sound card and mike set up would any of you recomend?

I have a sound blaster audigy 2 right now and it seems to work fine.

If you need more specific info please let me know.

Again this is for now just for recording decent quality demos with the emphasis on my voice, not the instruments. Down the road Im sure I will want to upgrade but for now Im just looking for a cost effective good quality set up.l

Well, it depends on your budget. You will do fine for demo purposes with just the SB for a sound card.

You could get away with just an SM57 plugged into the front bay's 1/4" jack (that is if you have that accessory).

Otherwise, you could get a decent preamp (do a search for "preamp" on the forum and you'll get a list of 'em) and, well, for a mic, the possibilities are endless. I like my new MXL V67G, it's fairly inexpensive and has a nice sound. You'd need a preamp with phantom power for it. With your kind of singing, you might also invest in a pop filter too.

heres what else u can do

PAD THE WALLS! deaden your room as much as possible that screaming stuff will echo in the room with a good mic and it sounds like some half ass reverb
