Here is my problem

I have been working---on and off---on my "album" for some 15 years. I first bought a Fostex X24 four track. Later I bought a Behringer UB1833FX-pro mixer. Now that I have finally completed the music I need an interface so as to download the "album" onto my pc. I admit, I am a near idiot when it comes to high tech stuff!

I found a M-Audio Delta 44 digital "card", at Musician's Friend but I have no idea if it will do for me what I want it to do. Two things:

1: I would ask the reps at Musician's Friend these questions, but being the Skeptic that I am.... I am afraid they will try and sell me someting I don't need. (I had a questionable experience with them when I bought a P A from them)

2: The songs I have on my four track need to be individually mixed therefor I must of course stop the tape and reset the mix for the next song. I have no idea if I will need any additional software so as to put the files in order so that when I finnish I can just "burn" it to a cd.
 
Well first off, that card comes with Ableton Live...so that should be enough for your mixing efforts on your computer...but if you want a program more powerful you might want to try Sony Acid 6 or Cakewalk Sonar 8. And secondly, your card should work fine...get the proper cables to connect your mixer and/or device that your going to use to the card. Make sure what you need, and go into the store and ask only for those specific features. That should keep them from pushing anything you dont need onto you..but keep in mind the better card you do get the more flexible you can get with your importing.

Well let me start by saying thank you! Now, I am off to google Abelton Live, torrents, Sony Acid6, and Cakewalk Sonar8. One more question: the pic of the card shows a xlr connection but it looks nothing like the xlr connection on either my recorder, or my mixer.... has something changed in the last few years? Again, thank you!
 
So, you have everything on a four track recorder now? Is your recorder capable of outputting each channel separately? What make and model 4 track? That Delta44 is a fine 4 channel soundcard, but if you can't output all four tracks separately from your 4 track, you might not get the full benefit.

Also, most soundcards come with some type of software for recording. You can also try Reaper.
 
oh, and you are right, I'd never ask a Guitar Center sales guy for tech advise. Those guys are dumb asses.

It is a Fostex X-24, and yes it has seperate line outs for each channel, however I am running the four line outs to my mixer. (Eurorack UB1832fx-pro)
I would like to use the XLR outs on the mixer to the card. But looking at the picture of the card the XLR outs do NOT look the same. I don't understand that!

Anyone?

In your shoes, I'd do this. Get the Delta 44. Route the output from each 4 track channel to an input on the Delta44 so you can get all your tracks still separate into the computer. Mix in the computer. I'd skip the mixer altogether.

The odd mic XLR jacks are a new type that accept both standard old school XLR plugs or 1/4" guitar jacks.

I have Ableton Live and wouldn't really recommend it for what you're doing. I use Cubase which I'm used to but if you don't have it I'd download Reaper as it's more straight forward from what I've seen of it.

Yes, as others have noted, you won't need your mixer.

The Delta 1010LT gives you more for about the same bucks:

Thank you all so much! I have alot of study and reserach ahead of me and I will surely have more questions.

One regret I have is I used the term "near idiot" when describeing my knowledge of this sort of stuff, when I should have said, complete idiot! lol.
