I'm building a new computer this summer with an m-audio soundcard and I'm buying a pre-amp. Hopefully that will help some with the vocals.

The bridge vocals need the most work, I know.

Her Pleasures

Words and music by: Joseph Spain
Created with Jamstudio.com 2.1, Acoustica Mixcraft 4.1, and Audacity 1.3

verse 1

She's faster than the human eye can see
The end comes quick for her defenseless prey
She made me learn how much a heart can bleed
I still dream of her at night

Obsession's not an easy game to play
Her rules are simple but I make mistakes
Her twist on love can take a life away
She enslaves me with her mind

chorus

She's soft, she's sweet
She's everything I'll ever need
She loves me, she breaks me
With sins that her mind conceives

She melts, she pours
She's everything the flesh adores
She hurts me, she hates me
Her pleasures hold pain

bridge 1

When you love her
You will learn why

verse 2

She comes to flavor every kiss I taste
Her water falls without a drop to waste
I crawl to her for more than I can take
of the potion she designs

I'm mesmerized by every spell she brews
Her sinful mixture that I freely choose
My heart is hers I'm in her hands to use
I'm her slave within love's binds

chorus

She's soft, she's sweet
She's everything I'll ever need
She loves me, she breaks me
With sins that her mind conceives

She melts, she pours
She's everything the flesh adores
She hurts me, she hates me
Her pleasures hold pain

bridge 2

When you taste her
You will learn why
When you please her
You will know

chorus

She's soft, she's sweet
She's everything I'll ever need
She loves me, she breaks me
With sins that her mind conceives

She melts, she pours
She's everything the flesh adores
She hurts me, she hates me
Her pleasures hold pain

(repeat chorus through fade)

This is a great example of why most songs aren't good poetry. As I was reading the lyrics first, I was prepared not to like it. The words read a bit over the top and forced.

But you do a good job of making them work in the song. I like your voice. The distant, slightly haunting quality suits the almost sycophantic adoration in the lyrics.

The music is fairly canned sounding though. Are all the instruments virtual instruments/midi driven? It just needs more depth and dynamics.

Bottom line though, you're off to a good start--keep working on it.

Thanks for the encouraging words. Yes, it's mostly a drum machine and canned chords from jamstudio, doctored up in Mixcraft and Audacity. I played a little acoustic guitar on the chorus, but its buried.

My current home system from 2003 isn't really intended for audio recording. It has an Audigy 2 card and it's difficult to keep both the dynamics and the volume intact. I have to compress too much to keep the volume up, which destroys the dynamic range.

I'm building a better system soon and I'm looking forward to that! I received some good advice on soundcards, software, and preamps on one of the Homerecording BBS tech threads a while back. Good advice.

Cheers,
Joseph (icystorm)
