Hi, I only want to take a moment of your time with something that is probably an easy answer for you. I have found my way around Adobe Audition, that is sorted. The next stage for me is getting a clean, as hiss free as possible sound onto my pc. My thoughts are that I need an external sound card (laptop). I am currently, with the mic turned right down, experiencing -42db's of hiss, too much for me to do anything with. I have a budget of about £100-£140 to play with. I have been looking at the Behringer B-CONTROL AUDIO BCA2000, Edirol UA-25, Tascam US 122 and the M-Audio Mobile Pre USB. Any suggestions and would this outlay give me the desired much reduced hiss recording experience. I have a fostex 8 track digital, will I ever get as good a sound as that?

I use the new Presonus Inspire Firewire with my laptop and Audition. Works fantastic. You can record up to 4 tracks simultaniously with zero latency, and at $199 U.S. , its close to your budget .Much better than USB interfaces. I use a PCMCIA firewire card that I picked up on ebay for $5.00 new , if your laptop does not have a dedicated firewire port. Just make sure it has a Texas Instrument chipset in the card. I am currently recording our third cd with this thing at 24 bit and like I said, I couldn't be happier.
If your are interested in the firewire card, there is a store on ebay that stills sells them for around that price. Ill try and dig up the link. Hope this helps
