Hi, I have a band and we want to record our own music. We still don't have the equipment for recording (except for the PC) so I was wondering what exactly do we need?I have a sound card with line in and two lines out, do I need a new sound card if we buy a mixer? I want to record each instrument on a diffierent channel!

you need a delta 1010 multi input sound card plus a yamaha mg mixer feeding it for example. direct outs of mg into delta inputs.
you can try powertracks that i use from pgmusic.com. for multitrack software and record up to 48 tracks. lots of info at the pg site.
try the demo.
ps...preferably - your pc should be 2ghz plus with 512 ram, and two fast hard drives.

good idea tim. i assumed he had already done that.
also at the site i gave you vice are a ton of tutorials and faq's for free reading.

rokket. yes indeed.
someone on this bbs tried to get me banned for recommending
what i believe in apparently.
dragon asked why i shouldnt be banned. as he had had complaints.
i responded with my position that i have to be true to my recommendations and beleifs as a professional computer engineer with 30 yrs experience and that folks complaining might use competitive products to what i use and might have vested interests in seeing me banned, but i did not know.
i decided as it was dragons board to be curteous and give him a period to ban me. He might yet. i dont know. but so far he has not.
also i had some deaths in my family which hurt me deeply.
but i believe one has to stand up for ones professional recommendations.
Even if that means being banned.
once i did a huge computer installation for a large org. an unsuccessfull bidder tried to get me fired by going to my boss and was shown the door. my boss was not amused. the bidder i selected was the correct decision and the tech solution performed the job and i was vindicated.
ie...this is nothing new for me. i just do the best i can.
but i cant retreat from positions i professionally believe in.
i try and help people best i can. they can either agree or disagree.
all the best.

Well, either way, I'm glad to see you back, even if no one else cares. You helped me out when I first got here, and I don't forget kindness. As you can tell by the massive post count and rep, I've been a busy little beaver for the last 6 months. Retirement is upon me, so I am probably not going to be on here much over the next 90 days, and after that, who knows. But anyway, welcome back. For what it's worth...! :D

thanks for the kind words rokket.
i hope you chase a lot of pina coladas in your retirement !
i once lived in spain. great place for cheap housing, food, wine
for someone retired. peace.
