So I have been messing with this rock song for awhile now and I have a part in it that has a LFE sub hit that needs to be felt in the chest without drowning the rest of the mix. I have tried by just using a 40 or 50 Hz sine wave and that seemed to work but not anymore. I notice some weirdness from doing this, and I can't explain it or find a better method to what I have already. Listening to this section of the song on small speakers the LFE totally overloads the mix, and sounds very crappy, but on a set of larger speakers with a sub in the system it's not loud enough.
I tried listening to a rap song that had a LFE similar to what I wanted on some small speakers. Funny thing is, when I turn the volume down I can notice the LFE just fine (volume seemed unchanged compared to the rest of the mix), and then when I turn the volume back up the LFE seems a little louder, but not in proportion to the higher freq's in the mix. How the heck is this done? Thanks in advance if you can help!

I may be way off base here but try adding around 100 hz. It is the 90hz to 120hz that kicks you in the chest and the 40hz to 60hz that rattles your trunk.

Try using a plugin like Maxx Bass on the sine wave so you can detect it without having 15" woofers or a sub in your setup.

U know what, I totally forgot that Maxx Bass plug, i have it.....i'll give it a try.
