help with st-audio c-port system!!(dsp 24)(dac2000)

ok, well i just got my interface and sound card today which came in this package... And i set it up and it works for the most part. The problem i have is that when i go to record a track i will plug in mic to the xlr in,(the system has 2 and then 8 line ins, so 10 track) and the first one only comes out the left channel!!! I can't make it work through the left and right. But the 2nd xlr comes out the right. So what i want to know is there a way to make them both go left and right.... i can't figure it out. I am a total newbie with computer recording!!!!! Well interfaces and soundcards that is... thanks alot for any help!!
 
Try this...

Open up your "External Links" program (part of the drivers that came with the package). Click on the "Ext. Mixer". You should see a set of faders labeled Input 1/2. You'll notice that the default setting has L (Input 1) panned hard left and R (Input 2) panned hard right. Adjust the panning for each channel so that both channels are centered.

well i actually tried that already.... it doesnt make a diffrence for some reason, so i have no idea... but thanks anyway

well u see what i really need to know is.... can i record drums with this c-port system?? I want to record many tracks. I says it can record 8 tracks simultaniously, but does that mean it really records 4 tracks and considers a channel to be each side of the stereo field?? I don't know what the hell is going on!! Thanks for any help!!!
 
The c-port interface does have 10 channels just as you said. And yes, they do appear in pairs and appear to be five 2 channel inputs. (actually they are) It is up to the software and how you set it up to split them out. For instance, I use Sonar to record, and in the program I can specify which side of the input pair channel I want to record into a track. The inputs appear in Sonar like this:

Input 1/2 left channel
Input 1/2 right channel

Input 3/4 left channel
Input 3/4 right channel

etc...

Byspecifying the desired channel on the track input, I can effectively record 2 different instruments or inputs or whatever into 2 different tracks.
