I seem to have developed a problem with my porta 2. When I record on track 2, then hit playback, I get the recorded sound on track 2 like I'm supposed too, but I also get the same recorded sound on track three. It also happens when I record track 3, I'll get the same thing on track 2 on playback. I have been using this porta 2 for over a year, it makes a great note pad and never had this problem. I keep the heads, rollers cleaned always and use the same TDK tapes as I have always since day one. Any help out there? Thanks.

I have to assume that you are intimately familiar with your machine after having used it for a year or more.

Does this sound like a ghost recording or is the level the same as on the other track that you were actually recording to?

Does your machine use pushbuttons for track/buss assignment?
Or maybe slide switches? Could have a bad one.

Pan pots working OK? I don't want to think that it is something you are doing wrong. You should be able to work the Porta in your sleep.

The levels are the same, I know it's not a ghost track. I have recorded with this unit at least 4-5 days a week and it's never happened. I realize that this is a low end unit but for note pad purposes, it's ideal. And yes, it's very simple to use. Sometimes I think I was asleep when recording. You never know when a riff will groove in your head. Thanks for the help.

I don't have a clue for the multiple posts. I think the board is having a stuttering problem.

Yo Vintage:

Just a shot in the dark but when you record one track or two tracks at once, do you need to put those tracks in the CUE mode to add on a track?

The cassette 8 tracker I used to use worked that way, as did the MD8 which I also retired.

If you don't put the recorded tracks into the CUE mode when overdubbing, you will suffer weird results, lose your data, etc.

Green Hornet :p
