Hi All,

As always...I am not quite sure what I need. First of all, here is my setup:

Mackie 1202 VLZ Pro Mixer
connected to my SB Live Platinum 5.1 with Live Drive

The mixer is connected into the line in of my sb live....

I was wondering...since I can only record what ever comes through the mixer onto one track (all the channels of the mixer go into two channels in the comp), is it possible somehow for some gear or software to split the right and left channel of the signal coming in back into the amount of channels the mixer used? What I really want to do is to be able to put each channel from the mixer onto its own track in the computer while recording...this would just give me more editing flexibility. Thanks for your help,

Milkman (by the way, I use Cool Edit Pro to record)

No. You need a sound card with multiple inputs to do multitracking, otherwise you'll only be able to do stereo recording.

ok...so i guess a channel splitter or something wouldn't help?

There is no such thing. With stereo inputs like your sound blaster card has, you can only record two tracks at a time (left and right). Once you've submixed with your mackie, there is no way to separate them. What you need to do is get a unit like the M-Audio Delta1010 (or something similar) and send the direct out from each channel on your mixer to the 1010 and record each one on a separate track (ie multitracking).

If you can find a way to completely separate out different tracks from a stereo recording, let me know 'cause you could probably make some serious cash. :D
