Ok so last time I was on here I was having trouble hooking up my mixer. I need help with this problem. I bought an XLR Cable for my microphone to use with my mixer. I'm using a dynamic microphone for my mixer. everything on my mixer is hooked up right. I'm trying to use this mixer for my podcasts that i do. I do all of my podcasts off of a website called Spreaker.com. All of the music is playing through the mixer, the only thing i'm not getting playback from is my voice from my microphone. Am I doing something wrong or do I have to get more things for my mixer????? Help Me Please. I'm new to this stuff.

Oh wow. Is this exactly the same problem as before, even with the XLR cable?
To clarify, it's XLR at both ends, right? Or, at least, the end that goes into the mixer is XLR?

Ok, so similar troubleshooting to before. With the source of music turned off your meters should be inactive on the mixer.
Plug in the mic, turn up the gain and level, make sure the mic switch is on if it has a switch, and tap the mic head.
Do the meters light up?

If not, what way are the 'to mix'/'to phones' switches on the mixer.
They appear only to be relevant to the cd/tape inputs, but I've read somewhere that they affect the mic input too.
Toggle them whilst talking into the mic to see what changes.

If that's no good and you're certain that it's a dynamic mic, I'd be trying to find a way to test the mic elsewhere and prove that it works.
What brand and model is the microphone?

do I have to change any settings on the sounds panel on my laptop??? both of the switches to the mix/phones are on.

the microphone works. the LED lights light up when I tap on on the mic

Ok, good start...So the microphone and cable physically work.
I'd presume that the mixer is sending your voice to the computer and that's why you can't monitor it live.
Toggle the switches and see what changes. My bet is that it'll route the voice to the headphones.

I suppose, ultimately, your goal is actually to use the mixer to send music and voice to the computer, and then monitor it from there rather that from the mixer headphone socket, right?

I have a nasty feeling there's something funny about the 502 routing that makes things awkward, but I'd need to research that.
Maybe one of the more familiar members will chime in and help with that?

Do you have recording software with input meters, or does the podcasting software show you incoming audio?
At any given time you should be able to see/hear your voice somewhere, whether it's directly at the mixer or in your computer.

PS: The XLR cable wasn't a waste of money...You still needed that either way. :)

Sweet. If the LEDs light up then the signal should be going to mains and/or headphones.
If you can't hear it, make sure the headphone volume is turned up and if you still can't hear it, toggle the phones switch on the mixer.

You're close.....play with stuff until it works, then work out why it worked. :p

Have you read the manual? I know that might sound rude, but it's the next thing I was going to do...

when I'm on Spreaker.com & I'm on it's broadcasting console, the music shows up on the meters on the console but not where the mic is. but yes that's what I'm trying to do is to pretty much have my music & my voice be sent to the computer from my mixer.

This is a long shot, but get yourself set up so that you can see the music on the speaker.com meters.
Now unplug all connections in and out of the mixer. Is the music still getting to speaker.com?

I'm wondering if your mixer just isn't in the loop here at all.

I unplugged all of the cords in the INs & the OUTs. the music was playing through my speakers on my laptop. and the meters on the broadcasting console were going with the music

Ok, I could be wrong but I think the broadcasting software is current taking input from your system output, rather than from the mixer, if that makes sense...
So yes, the music is going to your mixer but it's also going to the podcasting software.
That would explain why you can't hear the mic.

So....I think you'd need to set your operating system output to be the behringer device and do away with the cable between soundcard.
The behringer basically becomes your soundcard, see? The built in sound card shouldn't be in use at all, as far as I know.

Once you do that the podcasting software should still pick up your music, but it sound also pick up your mic.
There may also be an option in that software for you to choose your audio hardware - Again, go with the behringer.

You may need to toggle the 'to phones' and 'to main mix' buttons to get your monitoring just right.

You should be able to hear the music and your voice through the headphones (plugged into the mixer), while it all goes to the podcasting software too.

Give that a blast and let me know how you get on, please.

whenever I choose the audio setting, I go with the USB interface that has all of the cords from the mixer. I can hear myself when I speak into the microphone I'm just not getting any playback from it when I stop my podcasts. I can hear my music that I played but nothing from when I spoke into the mic.

Oh, sorry...I had it in my head that the behringer was USB. My mistake.

What is the model of the USB audio interface?
IT should be set as your system sound device and should be chosen as the I/O device in the podcast software.

When you unplugged the mixer cables and sound came out of your laptop speakers, that told me that your system is using the built in audio card.
It shouldn't be.

I'm assuming your mixer goes out to the PC via usb. If so, my Tascam interface required driver software. If there's no USB hookup you need some type of interface to get your master to the PC.

ok so I have my sound settings on the control panel set to both for the mic & the speakers. And on the console I have the mic set to the USB interface. the meter on the mic on the console though isn't lighting up.

Hmm..You had that working before so you just need to check everything and get it going again.
With the correct device chosen as above, you really shouldn't be too far away from being sorted now.

It's very late here, though, so I'm going to have to break for bed.
Play around and see how you go. If you don't get it sorted, I'm sure someone else will come along soon. :)
