I currently use n-track studio do mix down all my songs.......Usually I leave the vocal tracks last..... Now when I mix everything down...Why do the vocals tracks sound way to loud on the Cd.... They sound good when I mixing them down....But the final product is to loud...Please help.....

TRY MONITORING THE OUTPUT OF YOUR MIXDOWN DECK. THAT MIGHT OR MIGHT NOT HELP.

Where do the vox sound loud at?
do they sound loud on "your" equipment or somewhere else?
How do you store your final mixdown?
also,, what is your current process of getting your final mixdown to cd?

The vocals sound loud when I play the mixed down version on a cd player...They seem to overpower the music....

Storing...I just leave it a a wave file then burn it to a disk...

Basically....I lay the drums, then guitar, bass, keyboards...Mix them all down.. Then add vocals...And remix....Take the mixed version complete... Burn it to cd using cd creator 5 platinum...

Is the CD player playing through the same equipment that you mix on? If so,, is it playing through the same thing that you listen to your mixes on ,, or is it on a pc that may just run through a mixer? If its PC,,, does the pc run through the same source that you mix or is it connected to another source?

I am still new at getting the mixdown process perfect..So please bear with me.......
When I first listen to it on a cd.. Its on my computer...Then I take it to the car, stereo..ETC.....
And I basically mix down through my pc... I'm using JBL speakers..And cheap headphones(to balance everything out)
So everything I do when I mix down is through the computer.....

Ok,, I think I gotcha,,, Take a look at your computer's mixing console, the one that controls the soundcard with the Main, Line, CD, etc. Double click on the yellow speaker in the bottom right hand corner. Look for advance properties and make sure there is no 3D, or Enhanced buttons checked. If so,,, uncheck them then listen again.

Good Luck

....again, PLEASE REVIEW BLUE BEAR's link!!!

Your ANSWER is in there!!!!

...one more thing during mixdown, try cutting the vox gain approx 2 to 4 db's keeping it dry at first, then experiment with sig processing on your 2nd mix.

thanks

Thanks to all.. I have checked everything and am currently reading the article.....I can honestly say that this is the best message board yet......So thank u all... And I will let u know how this next mix down turns out...
