To add realism to my MIDI tracks, I have used the Logical Editor to randomise the velocities. This is fine. I used a similar condition to slightly randomise the Position of the notes, to add a bit more human feel... but there's a problem.

To put this in perspective, this is for a MIDI bass guitar track. I am dealing with a simply bass line, such as A|--5-5-5-5-5-5-- (tablature).

Every other note, instead of sounding properly, is beginning to sound but is cut much too short. However, when I move this "cut short" note up or down a semi tone, it plays for its whole duration without being cut short. I can't work out why some of the repeated notes are getting cut out, and is obviously affecting the sound of my track.

If anyone could help me out on this I would be incredibly greatful... there must be a solution..??

what device is playing back? sounds like and envelope issue so open up the release or make sure the device is polyphonic

I'm playing the MIDI through Kontakt 2. Thanks for your response - sorry to be unaware but how would I go about opening the release and ensuring the device is polyphonic?

EDIT - this isn't a fault of Kontakt 2, I can confirm, as when I use the RealGuitar VST it has the very same issue with cutting off...thanks.

I looked into this and found out that the notes "hiccup" if they overlap. This is causing the problem: some of the randomly positioned notes overlap meaning some aren't sounding properly. Shortening the notes ever so slightly so they don't overlap fixes the problem perfectly, but of course I'd love to avoid having to adjust all of the notes like so possible.

I guess my real question is...: is there an automated feature of Cubase that can detect MIDI overlapping, and thus push the two notes apart so they are marginally away from each other, causing them to sound properly... or something to this effect? Thanks a lot in advance!!!

Solution!!! :D

I will post my findings, in case any user searches this same issue and reaches this thread. Imagine coming here to find "oh I figured it out - thanks"... how frustrating! Here is the solution ;)

In MIDI edit view, highlight the notes where the overlapping occurs. Right click, go to Functions, and Delete Overlaps (poly).

Cubase says: "This function shortens notes when required, so that no note begins before another ends. This happens regardless of which pitch the notes have."

:) :) :) thanks!!

Nice.

I occasionally get this problem with my midi drums. Been trying to find a solution for ages.

It happened to me once.
I've been recording midi drums and Auto Quantize was accidentally switched on. Uh Uh
I couldn't find out by myself and so I got some expert help.
