help with mic volume

hi, i have a at4040 mic, a art tpsII amp, and a roland mv-8000 production studio. the problem is that on the only way i can get the sound from the mic loud enough to record on the roland is if its clipping on the amp. even if i talk into the mic, it dosnt get picked up that well by the roland, im thinking there must be some problem between the amp and the roland, or maybe its just how the roland or amp are set up. if you have any sugestions please help, thanks

sounds like you need phantom power. i don't know if that preamp has it or not, but you need a supply either way. if it does have phantom power, make sure you've got it switched on...
