So I have been messing with this rock song for awhile now and I have a part in it that has a LFE sub hit that needs to be felt in the chest without drowning the rest of the mix. I have tried by just using a 40 or 50 Hz sine wave and that seemed to work but not anymore. I notice some weirdness from doing this, and I can't explain it or find a better method to what I have already. Listening to this section of the song on small speakers the LFE totally overloads the mix, and sounds very crappy, but on a set of larger speakers with a sub in the system it's not loud enough.
I tried listening to a rap song that had a LFE similar to what I wanted on some small speakers. Funny thing is, when I turn the volume down I can notice the LFE just fine (volume seemed unchanged compared to the rest of the mix), and then when I turn the volume back up the LFE seems a little louder, but not in proportion to the higher freq's in the mix. How the heck is this done? Thanks in advance if you can help!
