Ok so I have a Sigma Acoustic guitar that I love. i just put on some new martin medium strings (the kind i always use) in order to break them in for when i record this weekend.

i am getting alot of fret buzz it seems, especially on the A (5th) string on the second fret. I've never had any problems with fret buzz before. what is the problem and what are some solutions?

thanks!

check for fret wear on the 4th fret.

if no fret wear, turn truss rod a bit counterclockwise

Didja take all the strings off before you put the new ones on ?
If you did, it often takes a couple of days for it to get back to normal. Even changing strings one at a time sometimes alters the tension enough to affect the neck.
I'd wait a couple of days before adjusting anything.
JMHO - YMMV

Here's what I can offer...

The cowboy chords always go first....

If the buzzing is isolated to one fret, it's most likely a fret problem. To fix it you need the have your frets polished so they are all level again.

If the buzzing seems to occur across the board in the are of frets 1,23, and 4, then you neck may need adjustment via the truss rod. It is bowing backwards a little.

teknomike was right: wait a day or two before doing anything rash.

BTW - you are keeping your guitar humidified, right? In wintertime, guitars can dry out if you don't give them a drink now and then, and a back-bowing neck/ fret buzz is one of the first signs.

If you're not, do your guitar a favor and spend $10 on one right away.
