I have a balanced XLR wire connected to the c1 and then the mixer is connected to the Soundcard HELPP PLEASE :(

are you going xlr to xlr (mic to preamp)? if so, did you turn the phantom power switch on the behringer mixer on (it should light up an led on the mixer)?

hey thanks for replying so quickly erm.. yeh xlr mic to preamp yet on the 502 it doesnt have a phantom power switch it just says preamp on the mic so im guessing u just stick in the mic and the preamp shud work sorry im new at all this but does a preamp mean it supplies phantom power to the mic?

im just wanting to record piano live.

there should be a little button that says +48v, and a lil amber light should go on. thats what most behri mixers have, otherwise, i guess it doesnt have it.

erm right so shud i return this mixer and get the next one up which has a lil button phantom power thingy or get a dedicated phantom power thing (how much would that be?) and how would i go along connecting it all? im such a n00b :(

get the next size up mixer, the 802 probably?

The x502 does not supply phantom power, according to the berhinger spec sheet.

lamo. jonthemon, you got owned by behringer. :p

Return it for a mixer that supplies phantom power. Try this one:

About $85 or so. Might be cheaper; I picked up one for about $75. I think you'll like it far better than the Behringer stuff.

Agreed. You'll be pretty happy with the pres on Peavey's PV series. They're exceptionally precise pres for consumer-priced gear, IMHO. I have its big brother, the PV8.

Any problems with the Peavey preamps clipping like a lot of cheap ass preamps do?

I use it on my kick. So no. They have a correctly designed trim... BEFORE the pre. :)

Are you saying that's the problem with other cheap preamps?

C1

I have the C1 and although i was dubious about it at first and had heard alot about noise issues, i thought for £35 why not?! *insert 'why not' answer here*

Although it probably wont get used much i was quite surprised at the quality. Obviously it's no AKG, but its ok - although the LED on the mic doesnt light up when mic is in function - guess u get what u pay for. I would also suggest the Yamaha MG series - they also have a nice little extra - it can be mounted on top of a mic stand.

Secondly, sorry to hijack the thread but can anyone help me out with this - I had a 57 and the C1 connected to my mixer for guitar and vocals - i noticed that when i turned on the phantom power my signal on the 57 went down considerably!! is this normal? it meant that i had to turn the gain way up on that channel which brough on much unwanted noise.

Thanks

Actually, now that I think about it, I think I'm wrong about that. If you did that (fixed gain, variable input), you'd be adding a lot of noise in the preamp chain... and the Peavey definitely doesn't have a noisy preamp stage....

I have no idea what the difference is... maybe too high a minimum gain on the preamp stage in some of the cheap ones.
