Hi, I got your addy off your website and was wondering if you could help me. I have a recording software program that used to allow wonderful audio recording where my mixer hooked into my soundcard from TAPE OUT to LINE IN. I bought a "better soundcard" and now am having problems. Here is a copy of the post I have been sending around for help:

Hi all, newbie here. Whenever I record audio through my mixer, my only
output option is TAPE IN/OUT with RCA plugs. (I have a Eurorack MX802A by
Behringer). However, when I plug in the RCA cords from the mixer out to the
soundcard, my main level immediately go skyrocketing even before anything is
recorded or transmitted. As soon as I plug in the cord, the level changes
and the result of audio recording contains static and popping! I have
played with the levels/sound EQ, recording level, etc. with no help! My
soundcard is a brand new mp3+ soundblaster from creative labs. It is
frustrating to not be able to recording audio with "ProAudio"! MIDI
capabilities work fine. Is there anything I am not doing right? Before I
bought this new soundcard this was never a problem.

Thanks,

Ken

My setup is : Soundcard OUT to mixer IN
Mixer OUT to LINE IN

what soundcard? operating system? does your soundcard have RCA plugs to go in, or a 1/8" plug? is it a stereo or mono plug?

the soundcard is the soundblaster mp3+ from creative labs, model #SB0270 (external) with stereo RCA IN/OUT plugin, op sys is win98.

try adjusting the volume control on the computer's mixer
should be under start menu < accesories < entertainment
go to options and click recroding, check the line in input level, pull that bad boy down! lemme know if that works

Here is my setup:

I have a MIDIMAN connected from keyboard to computer
Comp soundcard OUT goes to Mixer IN
MIXER IN MAIN OUTS go to my speakers
My keyboard OUT goes to MIXER IN
So, all I can think to do to record audio while using my computer software is to somehow go from the mixer to the LINE IN on my card, but this causes this "LOOP" that people keep saying is not ideal.

This way I can hear my keyboard playing and my computer sound through my speaker system. Is this wrong? Is there a better way to connect things without causing this loop? How should this setup be done?

ok i see, you're in a stickey situation, kinda like i am actually....what you're gonna hafta do i hook your monitors to your speaker out on the soundcard...your keyboard's audio should go to the mixer, main outs of mixer should go to line in on soundcard.....now you're gonna loose the ability to control the monitors volume with any knobs, but you will get sound into the soundcard without making a loop....make sense?

Or.......

I have an 802 mixer and use it like this:

Run the MAIN OUTS of the 802 to your soundcards LINE IN.
(You will need RCA>TS adapters availble from Radioshack for like $3 a pair. Buy 5 or 6 sets....they are many times more usefull that most of the people working at RS seem to be.)
Make sure the mixer is NOT pluged into the MIC IN of the s/c as you will overload the input and get clicking/popping/noise/etc.

Run the LINE OUT of the SB to the TAPE IN of the 802. (adapter set #2)

Plug your monitors (what kind of monitors???) into the CONTROL ROOM OUTS of the 802 (this is what the control room outs are for)

Now you can control the monitor volume with the control room volume knob and the level sent to your computer with the Main volume knob (and therby "set and forget" your SB's mixer volume setting.)

You can now also select whether you want to monitor your sound sources comming into the mixer or the sound comming out of the computer by using the [Tape to Control Room] button.
