ok, here is what i want to do

i have guitar pro 4

i want to write drum parts in it
then i want to export them to midi files

i want to either "play back" or "import" those midi files into DFHS as my "midi input" into the bouncer

basically, instead of playing an electronic drumkit/keyboard/something else, i want my midi song that i have written (just drums) to be the midi input to dfhs

how can you do this, WITHOUT a keyboard/drumkit/trigger/pad

i have cubase sx 3, sound forge, acid pro, fruity loops, dfhs, guitar pro 4

thanks,
-Joey

What does 'the bouncer' mean?

If you define that unfamiliar term we may be able to help...

its a feature in dfhs that "bounces" the drum track
as in...

takes midi input, sends the signals into its internal processing which produces the drum sounds that you hear, and renders them down to tracks (wave files), by microphone...

i hear about people using DFHS to make drum tracks using an electronic drum kit (that sends midi signals into the computer, into the program) all the time, but what i want to do is use midi files, not a midi trigger

i mean i know i could go buy a box that hooks up to the computer, transfer the midi file from the computer into the box, then play the midi signals from the box into DFHS, but i want to bypass all that and just send midi signals to DFHS from a midi file

I have DFH2 and I have been asking how to do this exact thing. I wish somebody could tell me how, as I purchased the software intending to do this and can't make it work...

well dfh2 is the complete opposite of dfhs
cuz its controlled (and only operable) by its peice of crap sampler
which btw, will work if you've got acid pro
you set it up as a soft synth in acid pro, and import your midi file
put the soft synth on the midi track and pick your drum set
and it will play
but it performs very poorly (and your midi drum signals have to be a certain way to interact with the way the sampler accepts those signals. like... all my midi file hi hats come out as floor toms in dfh2)

but i hate to be the guy that gives you the bad news, dfh2 sucks
dfhs is way different and better

instead of functioning like a plugin, its a program where you hit a record button, and it tracks the midi signals you sned to it, and then you :bounce: down to wave files that can be imported into any sequencer as live tracks (they're actually rendered down to microphones...)

but anyways, yeah dfh2 sucks. you get no seperate control over each microphone/drum (well you do, but its a volume and a pan... lol i dont know about you, but i'd rather trust my faders and my compressors more than that shitty sampler), just one solid streaming output of crappy sounding drums

Far be it from me to try to talk sense to you.

'Sucks', 'crappy' and 'shitty' are the words of a man who has given up.

yeah so anyways

dfh2 has nothing to do with dfhs tho
and i still am wondering if what i want to do is possible

well if worse comes to worse (I dont have the prog so this is specualtion) you can route one of your midi outs from the midi track to a pysical midi in and use that so it will function like a controller. But it still baffles me that u cant use it like a regular VSTi

I'm still not sure I understand your problem completely. This is exactly what DFHS is for. I use it with Sonar as a VST instrument. I create a MIDI track and assign it's output to DFHS. It plays through it as a VST instrument. You can import a MIDI file to that track, or do as I do and program the MIDI manually with the mouse. You can then record the MIDI track into DFHS and it will create the audio files. Yes, you have the option of using it with electronic drums or a MIDI controller of some sort, but it is also ideally suited as a manually programmed VST instrument which will accept the input from a MIDI track just as you describe. You need to use a setup file in DFHS that will read your MIDI data correctly. I believe it has an option to work with the GM standard for drums, but it will only work to it's full potential using the "Superior" setup.

And by the way, DFH2 really does work about the same as DFHS. DFHS just has alot more options.

yeah i was just about to post that i figured out how to do it

the whole midi loop opened up a huge world to me
i have actually successfully made a drum kit out of my desk with microphones and drumagog converting the live audio signal into midi data haha

thanks for everyone's help!
