Recording Noob

(I've also posted this thread in the 'Newbie' section...is this okay?)

Hello everyone! I'm new to the recording game, but recently just purchased all the stuff I need to record (vocals, guitar etc.)

I have a Studio Projects B1 mic hooked up to a mixer running into my M-Audio Audiophile sound card on my PC. I also have Cubase SE installed.

Anyway, I was wondering if someone can kindly help me with these things...

1. I use my Audiophile to record, but I also use an Audigy 2 with 5.1 speakers for gaming. I'm wondering how to monitor AND play back files I record in Cubase with my Audigy 2 speakers. I tried setting the default playback card in windows etc. but it still doesn't work.

2. I want to be able to record a track, then listen to the track with my speakers (connected to my Audigy 2) WHILE recording another track on top of it. How do I go about doing this?

Thanks for any help guys!! I appreciate it!

You have to set up cubase to playback through the audigy. The problem with doing that will be that the latency from the audigy will be really bad and nothing you play will line up. Find a way to monitor from the m-audio through their no latency monitor.

I was going to playback with the Audiophile, but my speakers are 5.1 and the Audiophile does not have 6 channels.

Unless you are recording in 5.1, you shouldn't be monitoring that way. If you have 6 speakers, just use 2 of them for this. If you are using crummy computer speakers, your mixes won't translate anyway. You need studio monitors.
