For one thing, you might try a dynamic mic instead of a condensor. Using a dynamic mic up close might be all you need. If you can turn the amp up reasonably loud and you have a noise gate on it, you can get a very clean take without having to treat the whole room.

It's easier to deaden the area around the amp than it is to deaden the whole room. If you have some 2x2's and some deck screws you can build a little frame to fit around the amp and cover it with movers blankets or something. The poor man's way might be to get a large cardboard box (huge tv, refrigerator box, etc.) and line it with foam and cover it with blankets, then set it over the amp with the mic inside.

It's a lot easier to keep sound out of a box than it is to keep sound out of a whole room. But if you have money to burn on room treatments then there are more threads here dealing with that too.

If all else fails, you can get a longer mic cable and put the amp and the mic in a closet full of clothes, the clothes will deaden the sound and the closet will act like an emergency mic booth.
