HELP: Problem with Tascam 688

Hello everyone! I recently purchased a fine looking Tascam 688, and for about two weeks it worked perfectly fine, until something happened. It would still play, but not fast forward or rewind. Does anyone know what the problem might be? I opened her up and the belt looks perfectly fine.

So, what could be wrong? And how much is the appreciated cost for such repair? Is it possible to do at home?

Worth noting is also that it sounds like a sort of tapping noise when it plays..!

I have changed them in my 244.It wasn't too hard,but the 688 is a much more
complicated beast.
Still,it might not be that hard.

It wasn't a wheel from what I could gather, it was gears, pretty worn ones at that. I don't know if I handled it wrong when I opened her up, now one of the motors are weak, and the tape turns to salad. I'm very thankful for any help possible at this point!

Edit: Now it doesn't eat the tape. Weird.
