Hello,

I have been reading up and practicing my mixing for about 2-3 months now....I have heard so many different ways to do things...But they all use different equipment...So i was hoping htat someone could please give me some help on what steps i should maybe go with using my equipment that I use...

Currently I have a ....

Marshall MXL 990 Microphone
Nady Pop Filter
Behringer Eurorack UB1202

I go from there into my line in on my computer....

I use adobe audition is my program
I also have the WAVES VST/Direct X plugins that come with the C4 and C1 and all that...

Noise Reduction
Click and Pop Eleminator
C4 2 band and then 4 band reduction
Then C1 - Gate
Graphic Equalizer
Parametric Equalizer
FFT Filter with a mastering effect
Reverb {Sometimes}
Hard Limiting {Sometimes}
Dynamics Processing {Usually 4:1 Compression}
Normalize {If Needed}

So my question is....

Maybe some better steps in order that I should do and stuff I am doing wrong or stuff I should add

I would really appreciate it and thank you to who replies...

1. You're overprocessing. WAY overprocessing.

2. *Some people* here are going to find your post unusal, as most people who use $100 microphones and $150 mixers don't use $3,800.00 plugin suites. I'm not suggesting anything, but... :eek:

Thats what still going to high school is good for lol....our tech ed person at school likes to spend money on software....

anything ud take out that I do when mixing?

Start out using as little processing as you can. Doing it on the computer, you can easily do more later. If you over do it on the way in, you can mess it up, with no recovery. If you're doing all this after recording, listen in between each time you apply a step, see what it sounds like, and just tweak from there. Some stuff may need all items listed in your chain, but some won't. Your ears will know, as you have a certain sound you want to hear out of the recording.

Easiest way is to just play around with things, and take a listen. You've got tons of tools, so should be able to get some good sounds.
Good luck.

Try this:

Use the right mic in the right place and maybe one EQ plugin.

So can someone maybe please post like the order that they do things in if they use Adobe Audition or any other program...because theres so much in WAVES also....Maybe just like some stuff I can try

I would do things exactly as you listed it.

Looks perfect.

Wouldn't change a thing. I use the click and pop eliminator myself ... like all the time. It's my secret weapon.

You apply things as they're needed. That's the order. On a great sounding track, start by applying nothing.

You mean no FFT Filter, MM?

What's the matter with you? I can't live without mine.

Do any of you have AIM or MSN? Maybe I could ask you some questions and stuff if you want about mixing and stuff. Id appreciate it. Thanks. If you wanna talk to me on AIM you can message SwurVe O Matic or MSN at colehendricks@hotmail.com
