I recently joined this forum because and have totally been blessed, Saves me a lot of time and money. I am trying to help out my local church which lacks funding to make their music but must admit I am totally clueless to the whole procedure. I have read most of Dragon's lectures- which I have found very educative and funny. But need hands on help from individuals.
I recently acquired Cool Edit Pro but totally clueless on what to do next. However I am a fast learner and my computer skills are fair which has encouraged me to continue. Please some one answer my Church SOS.

James,

The best thing you can do is play with Cool Edit Pro, learn from trial and error, and read as much from these boards as you can. When you hit a snag in CEP, come here and do some searches until you find what you're looking for. If you don't find it, post a specific question. Be patient and you'll definitely get the hang of it. Just give it time and effort.

Yo Muhair: [better than lesshair!]

I don't use cool edit so I really can't offer you any help; however, I would think that there must be at least one person around your part of the world who would be willing to help a Church.

Maybe check out any home studios in your area? Most folks are always willing to donate time for a good cause.

Good luck,
Green Hornet:D :D :p :p :p
PS Your English is pretty good too!

I've used your advice, but......

Hi People,
It was nice to find some people out there who are willing to help.
Well, Green Hornet, thanx for the compliment- English. I like to think our colonisers did a good job (The British), otherwise we'd be out of these times. Can't say though how my Great-great- Grand father would feel about this- probably turning in his grave as I type this. By the way Muhairwe is my surname and in my language it means- 'Given' or 'Blessed'.
To the point though, I started doing some recording tests, and ued Vurts advice. Toyed around with CEP (See! already learning the lingo) and stuck already.
1. Saved my stuff as a session, with 4 tracks in multi tracking- had to do each track one at a time, vocals, keyboard etc. So how do I save it as wav?
2. Too much hiss (Noise) when I use Amp 'n' mixer but less when I attach mike or keyboard direct to my pc. Any Ideas.
3. Read about Wave Lab, Nuendo etc. Do I also need this stuff, where/how do I get them, Can I get them free? lol
4. Where can I find some connection (others-PC) manuals.
Too much eh? Well I am naturally wordy, never can sqeeze all these words in a few...

P.S Green Hornet, about checking at local studios, you'll be suprised how many there are in my country. All the people in these forums are probably doing better than even the commercial ones. This is the best I can get. I am already better off and it's just day four!
Cheers.

When you are finished with the individual tracks you can do a digital mixdown to save it all as mixed master.

Sounds like the mixer is crappy or your levels are not set correctly. The easy answer is just to record direct to the PC. Let your ears be the judge.

3. Read about Wave Lab, Nuendo etc. Do I also need this stuff, where/how do I get them, Can I get them free? lol

Those programs are basicly the same as CEP with more bells and whistles. They are available from most online music stores but not sure about availability for you in your country.

Not sure what you are asking there.

Tex, Vurt, GreenHornet

Thanx a bunch guys, your help has been invaluable.
I am now on my way to a fast learning curve thanks to you guys.

muhairwejas,

Welcome!

Nice to have you aboard.

That's the best thing about this place, there's people from all over the world getting together, dosn't get much better than that!

I think it would help if you told us about the rest of your setup, what mics, gear, instruments your using, what your recording enviornment is,and what your ultimate goal is.

From there everyone can give you some solid advice.

Wow,Uganda!
Are you in the city,or do you have like lions and elephants walking around?
I had to ask!

Good luck

Best to you,
Pete

Hadn't looked at this post in a while and therefore hadnt seen Pete's post.

Actually I stay in the city, only Lions are at the zoo.

Though I have seen a few lions in my time. In my village we hunt down the lion when it starts messing with our flock.

Come down some time, I'ts not as bad as you folks think.
Gosh, you'll find lots of BMWs on the roads.

Cheers
James

Yo James:

I am so happy to have helped you out in a small way. If I were closer, I'd volunteer my studio; however, that won't work.

But, I'll bet some folks around you will come to your aid. Folks who do music are good folks, maybe strange folks; however, most are good folks.

By the way, I'm a retired teacher of English Composition; I taught that subject like the British -- and, you know how difficult a British English teacher can be.

Cheers and save the lions and wildlife in your country.
