help on amp and mic

hey guys ive been so confused on this whole mic thing. very new to recording and such and i just got a new amp(usb fast trak m-audio) and a dynamic mic from best buy and the amp is compatible with the dynamic mics.
long story short i have finally started trying to record and the lines dont come out when im speaking into the mic and there is no volume. its like nothings happing at all, so i make sure my mics not on mute and it isnt so now ive just been messing around with the mic and amp to get it to work....any help please!!!

ps. ive tried like 3 times to get this thread to work so hopefully it wont be posted 3 times...sry if it is
 
Well first off the M-Audio fast track isnt an amp the last time i checked it was a soundcard. Which program u tryin to use it in? Also have you installed the lastest drivers on your computer? If not you def need to.

ive tried acid 4.0 and ive tried the windows sound recorder and yes every thing is up to date and i have installed everything complete
 
Well is your software showing that the M-Audio soundcard is the card being used for recording. Make sure your settings on your computer are changed so the M-Audio is the main card.
