Last year I purchased a BOSS-BR1180, and I have had a lot of fun. Recently, I've also purchased two Edirol studio monitors, and shortly I'll be buying the Alesis SR-16 drum machine. For mics I simply have two AKG D 8000's which were on sale in musician's friend.
My question is, now that I want to get into more serious recording, what more do I need? I take it the mics aren't enough, and if so, what's out there for cheap ($150ish) that'd do? And how big of a difference as far as overall qaulity would it make?
My frined Joe, who's been recording since the 70's, invested over $10,000 in equiptment years and ago, and from what he tells me, as far as recording equiptment goes, I should be happy with the BOSS as it's 95% of the same qaulity for a fraction of the price.
Also, as far as mixing goes, I only use common sense techniques. Does anyone know of any websites that would be helpful in this area? Like any charts of diagrams that would explain how different sound frequencies and EQ work and, in general, how I would EQ the vocals as opposed to the rhythm track?
I'm pretty dumb when it comes to that stuff.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks a bunch!
