Hi there people. I play guitar/keyboard - and I have been struggling to record anything to my pc. Here's what I've got:

WinXp + Creative Live Drive II

Sony Hi-fi

Fender strat / Marshall / Yamaha Motif 6

Numark WM200 Mic (cheap)

Loads of different wires

At the moment I listen to stuff by connecting the two wires from Hi-fi to the one of the small holes at the back of the computer. (1/8 inch? sorry i cant be more specific). I can also plug my mic into the front of the soundcard into the "mic-in", (larger 1/4") and sound comes out of my hi-fi.

I have some software - Cool Edit Pro 2 amongst others. I plug in the mic, hit record, and nothing happens. The levels flicker around nothing....

I have also tried plugging the mic into the back (with a 1/4 to 1/8" adaptor) as i understand nic in is not great?... still nothing.

I have checked all volume level / none muted etc etc...

Please help!!!!

Carter.

Check to make sure you have the correct sound card choosen for input and output on your PC (somewhere under a preferences menu). Also, I dont' know how to use Cool Edit Pro at all, but check to make sure you also are record arming the track you want to record to and that the levels are up. 9 times out of 10 whenever I have problems it's because I forgot to arm the track. Usually it's a button on the track that says Rec or R or has the recording symbol on it. Good luck.

with respect wah and a lot of people will tell you that at some point you should look at a proper pro recording card. in the interim check in windows>>>accessories>>>volume control RECORDING PROPERTIES that you have mic in enabled and the fader is up. this volume control applet is critical to understand. i dont have a live card but it probably has its own applet to do the same thing. in cool edit pro look in forgotten the name (preferences? settings?) and make sure the correct drivers are selected and the right sampling and playback rate. i hope one of these ideas helps you.

Thanks for your responses. I had a look in the creative "extra" programs. The first was "Audio HQ" which didnt run, and said "cannot initialize driver".

The second one was "Creative diagnostics" thing... It tests hardware - and failed on "Mixer Driver" "SoundFont Settings" and "Mixer Settings Check".

The "Begin Fix" button said it was missing files and recommeded reinstalling drivers. I was gonna get latest drivers anyway, so hopefully that is what the problem was all along.

Where is the best place to get drivers?

On the Creative site I am not sure which is mine - Creative Drivers Europe
As far as I know mine is a "Creative Live! Drive II"

I have also found opendrivers

There are many saying Creative Live 5.1 AND ->Audigy<- which I havn't got.
Also I have a Live Drive-> II <- ...most just say soundblaster live...

Can someone please guide me to the right download. There are so many and I don't want to install the wrong one! :(

Please help!

on the creative site I'd recommend trying the "SB Live!" drivers. If you've already checked Control Panel-->Sounds and Audio Device--->Audio...and seen that your card is already choosen, then maybe your drivers are messed up. hope it works.
