Help- Need songs mastered by Friday by idiot who knows nothing of mastering-namely me

From all my tests, the L2 is a better plugin than the L1+. Also, the Waves Linear Multiband is the best "quick-fix/demo" mastering tool I've heard.

That said, I have to agree at least partly with Bruce on this one. Although the mixes are quite "DIY" and "lofi," I can't understand 90% of the lyrics (in Jonathan), and that means the vocal mix is wrong. That is something that is extremely difficult to fix in the mix. Also, that weird vocal vibrato on Dick Oskie obscures the vocal line, it's just too loud. And your drum mixes should be a little more similar on each song. There are other little naggy fixes that I could suggest.

I know it's unpopular to say this, and I know it's cool to be "alterna" and "DIY," but it's never cool to put something out that could be a lot better with another decent pass at the mix.

Heh. My songs are now widely referred to as turds. Man I've come a long way.

No, the songs are good. There's a reason I listened to all three, instead of stopping at the first. Sorry about the typo up there, I meant the vocal level was hard to fix in the master, not in the mix. Although a brilliant mastering engineer could probably get the mixes to sound somewhat better, they could be a lot better with a second, "ground-up" pass at the mixing stage.

update: the package is in the mail to Tracky so hang tight for developments! The T-rat will be remixing and mastering the rats project! With any luck the turd-factor will be eliminated with his expertise and plain old know how- will post an A-B comparison when the results are in!:D

I agree 100% and that's why this whole thing is happening. I never professed to be an engineer, just a lowly artist with some crazy notions on how rock music should be. I did my best on the mix, spent a lot of time on them, and posted them here in the clinic for all of your critique, and back then , most everyone said they were pretty darn good! These songs I just posted have not changed AT ALL since the last go around so this comes as a bit of a shock! But anyway like I always say, if you can't run with teh big dogs, it's best to just stay on the porch so I'm leaving the technical stuff to those better suited for the task!

I know I'm gonna get ripped if I ask this, but I might as well ask it sometime. I THINK that it's just playing with EQ, compression, and effects on the final mix?...haha...as you can see I got no idea. Please enlighten me!

Or maybe I could use the search function? Now there's an idea!
