This is my first visit to this site. I have done most of my recording at professional studios and at home on a Tascam 488 Portastudio run on cassette. I want to learn about how to record through my computer and don't have a clue as to the first step. Some people have suggested buying Cakewalk. Can someone give me opinions on software and on exactly what I need/how to start up? I need excellent CD quality but I don't have a lot of money. What a shock. ;) Thanks a lot!! :)

Download the free demos... Cakewalk, Vegas Pro, Cool Edit Pro...N-Track... These are all good for beginners. N-Track is prolly the best (cheapest) way to get into the swing of things.

Thanks S8 N! Free demos? :) Now you're talkin. ;) I will go search for them. Thanks again.

Try Powertracks Pro Audio from PG music. Great and easy to use program and only $29 to buy. They also have a free demo to try:

Also goto:

DL their echo reporter, it can give you a good idea of how many track you can record/playback.

I hope your computer is either a Mac or PC, if PC then you better have an intel processor. They work the best for recording.

Happy hunting!
Joe
