I just got a Boss BR-8 (and am loving it!) but have tried to access the patch on Roland's website that will allow you to convert BR-8 song files into .WAVs.

Unfortunately, the page is inactive for some reason. I called Roland themselves and they told me that the techs are redesiging the page (or the patch) and it was going to be another week or two before it was back up!

But I need the converter NOW, for musical and promotional reasons! Does anyone have a mirror to, or have the actual file, for the converter, that they could either send me the link of, or send me the file itself? My email is robcushing@aol.com.

ANY help/feedback/etc. would be GREATLY appreciated (I'm so mad at Roland for not even announcing about the downtime on the patch).

THanks!

I ran into a similar problem with my vs-1880. I needed to get a system upgrade before I could use the CD burner, but when I went to Rolandus.com (the U.S. site) The file could not be downloaded. But then I went to Roland.co.uk and they had it there. I downloaded the upgrade file and did all the necessary stuff and blah blah blah and now i can use the CD burner. Anyway, try Roland.co.uk k?

still in need?

I could attempt to send that file to you this afternoon (the day job). I've got it on a floppy and could pass it along.

Thanks for the help, all, but I took Uladine's advice and searched the UK site. Didn't find it there, BUT luckily I speak Italian so I went to the Italy site and found it there. I must say, though, that the program is really hard to comprehend...or maybe it's just me....:)

Again, thanks to the both of you for your help! Much appreciated!

Actually, I do have one more question....it doesn't state it, but what does the new 1.2 update cover?

1.2 upgrade

When I called Roland here is what I heard.
It is supposed to clear-up some bug, only seen on the start up screen. There is some type of improvement to the tempo map feature. I thought I heard the guy tell me there were some rhythems added. And the some of the "noisier" patches were to be cleansed, too.
Also, watch for more udates. (there is the story !) I plugged it in and am using it, didn't notice any major changes. There's no turning back once it is installed.
I really do think this it is a good recording device. Overall, glad I got it. I've been thinking I want to find a drum machine (can't afford a kit) money and space are also a premium. ZOOM 123 ????
Also, may look into a recorder to master out to. MD or CD stand alone that can be fed by a fiber link. Any suggestions?
The Zip disk thing is kind of a downer. But not the end of the world. I just find it difficult in deciding what I want to throw out when another disk is needed for a new project.

Thanks for the info, HAGPLUS4!

Don't know much about drum machines....I have a Korg N364 keyboard that I first sequence all bass, drums and keyboard tracks through, then I record that as a stereo track. Since the sounds are already panned on the N364, it works wonders. :)

It then leaves me plenty of room to add guitar and vocals....

As far as a direct CD/MD? Unfortunately, not sure about that either....have you tried looking around Harmony Central's website at all? (or Pro Audio Review).

Another quick question for ya.....say if I have tracks 1-6 recorded, and each track is panned out, then I bounce all that to track 7....will track 7 be in mono, or will it be panned appropriately? I have a feeling I should probably bounce to both tracks 7 and 8....am I right on that?

Thanks again for the help, all!

bouncing tracks

If you wanted a stereo output you should bounce to two tracks. BUT if you wanted, and you might get an interesting result, bounce to a single track, (try it). Then if you lose some dynamic from one of the previous separate tracks (I.E.....your not getting the separation that you had intended).
You can find that musical input again in your virtual tracks (those tracks are NOT gone, just buried in "V-tracks") and remix it back again along with the result you had gotten on chan.#7. Digital can be cool. Undo is simple and non destructive.
I'll have to check the place you recommended for info on digital recording medium. THANKS, Hugh

HAGPLUS4 - TigerDirect.com had a ten pack of ZIPs for $59 after rebate. I brought 2 packs and now have plenty for disks for songs. Also, don't forget to 'optimize' if you're doing a lot of overdubs that you don't keep, this will free up track time.
