Help name that effect...

I was just replaying a "best of" Three Dog Night hits, revelling in those vintage sounds. Then I began to wonder, what is it that makes those "pinging" sounds in "Just an Old Fashioned Love Song"--you know, those notes in the quiet parts of the song that sound a little like guitar harmonics with lots of effect? Anybody know?

I'm not shure i know what you mean, and i arn't shure i know the answer, but here goes... Its probobly a combination of a mic on/picking up the frets of the guitar, a vintage mixer with vintage tube FX and the media recorded on (2 inch tape).
