How do you record an instrumental melody on the chorus? How do you mix it? Mine always stands out like a sore thumb.

Forgive me man, but I have no idea what that means. It's might just be me, but I'd love to help you if only I understood the question.

Say for instance that I have a rhy guitar, bass, and drums. On the chorus I want to add a lead guitar, but only on the chorus.

- I record the lead guitar with a different EQ

- when the chorus starts the sound of the entire song changes

- when the chorus ends the sound of the entire song changes

I just want to record a melody on the chorus that can clearly be heard and yet doesn't change the sound of everything.

Solo just the guitar parts and then adjust the volumes of each guitar part until they blend better.

You might want to eq the lead the same as the others. They will blend better. If the lead is playing melody over the rhythm, it will stand out enough.

Experiment with panning. You might want to double the lead (played twice, not copy and paste) and pan it hard right and left, and bring it up just under or over the rhythm part.

turn the volume down on the lead... it's too loud... don't compress it so much and if you haven't compressed it at all... compress it

Let's break it down then. Why would the entire song change because a part is layered on. What else (if anything) are you changing in the mix, and what besides the new part sounds different?

instrumental lead

try making a right and a left recording using two tracks pan one all the way left and the other all the way right then slightly change the eq on one side if you are doing a guitar track it makes it very fat
