On what level do you want to record? Just yourself or demos for other people. What type(s)of music? Mainly acoustic or lots of synths etc.? This is the info people here need to be able to help you.

All I wanna do is record!

Corianna, there are so many different levels at which you can approach "recording". As a rough guide:
1; the simplest is to buy a cassette based 4 track.
2; a "minidisc" based 4 or 8 track.
3; a "harddisc" based 4 or 8 track.
Then onto the next level........
4; a "stand alone" H/disc recorder incorporating mixer, effects, editing facilities...........

The list could go on and on and I haven't even started on computer based systems or full console systems.

I suggest you attempt to find a studio in your location that would be willing to take you under their wing and let you start to learn there. Dont rush into any purchases until you are sure that you are doing the right thing because reselling gear is always a lot harder than buying it in the first place.

Good luck..................
