I'm lookin to buy a multi fx rack unit that is good for recording both guitar and vocals., not just guitar., as there are many out there for guitar, but not made both guitar and vocals.

Somewhere in the range of $150 to $250.

Multiple posts will help me make a decision. Thanx alot!!!

I have'nt found a vocal proc. yet thats worth a shit in that price range. You will need to spend big bucks to get a great vocal unit.
Now as far as guitar, the Johnson J-Station is top notch...what a great unit for the price...unlimited presets and downloadable presets from other users. Also has SPDIF out. But this is not a rackmount unit. The digitech gear is pretty descent and can actually do well with vocals too.

Tech-21 is the tops for guitar prosessing, if they only made a mic pre,

Vocal effects are hard to come by.

Truth is a guitar processor will work just perfectly.

For instance my BOSS GT 5 has great EQ, great compression, reverb, and chorus.

I have run mics through it and the vocals came out wonderfully, and you can do many things.

Any decent guitar processor works find with any instrument - to say they are made specifically for guitar is 90% bull.

still need help

Wow. These reply's haven't helped much. I wish there was a clear answer to this.

Ok Guitar, Im using a Pod pro (600USD) or a Digitech GNX2 (not rack mounted but has a S/PDIF out~ 350USD). Both are very nice.

For vocal effects Im using an Alesis Midiverb4 (which is great (200 USD)) in conjunction with a Mic pre (Focusrite Platinum Voice Master Pro). The Midiverb is more than enough for my humble needs having a plethora of plates as well as the wild and wacky. Another nice unit is the Digitech Vocal 300 (there is a new USB version out so you should be able to get the old one cheap ...max 200 USD). This is not rack mounted like the Midiverb but is 24 bit as opposed to 18. Both can be used in either a loop or as insert effects.

Look for a Lexicon processer in Ebay, you may get a great deal and great quallity. Try to get Lexicon MPX 1 it will do good stuff for you now and for ever. It may cost around $400 in ebay

There is no clear answer within the range of your proposed budget... perhaps you should wait and better define your requirements while researching the available options.

Best of luck with it.

For what it's worth, I've heard of people using a j station to process vocals and even drum tracks in addition to guitar and bass. Didn't sound bad at all, I should add. I'm very interested in getting one of these puppies.

Forget about 'guitar' and 'vocal' processors unless this is for a live rig. For recording they all basically suck. If you want a good all around reverb/delay unit check out the TC Electronics M300. They are $200, have dual effects paths so you can use two seperate effects paths and they are pretty clean.
