I'm trying to buy a new condenser mic..

but i don't have much money..

i'm selling stuff on ebay, but I don't think it's working out..

if the sm58 i have on ebay is sold for some dollars,

i think i'll manage to save up to about $150..

i don't care if it's used..

can anyone suggest a nice condenser mic?..

it's mainly for my vocals..

well.. i hope i get some good suggestions..

oh, and for you guys looking for a sm58,

it's on ebay :)

in EXCELLENT condition without a scratch or dent or anything..~

hehehe..

Do you already have a mic pre and/or mixer that provides phantom power?
Is it only just for recording or also for live use?

Chris

Inevitably, all the studio projects talk will start.

Do a search, there's at least a thread every couple weeks regarding the best mic sub $200 or so.

Brandon

this could be it;;

sorry but all i saw was $300 threads..

i have a small behringer mixer..

i believe it was about $60 but it's got phantom..

i checked it and it's UB802..

it would be 100% for studio, so live use is not a concern yet..

it would really help..

right now all i know are microphones for about $300

maybe if i starve for a week or two and saved 50 more dollars?..

$200 total?

hew.. it's hard being broke and wanting gear..

it would really help if someone recommanded a mic for about 150..

please help~~~~~

SM57?

you really should look into the SM57. it's about 80 bucks new i believe, and it's a standard must have for all studio use. the 58 is great for live vocals, but from what i've heard the 57 is a better buy for studio use, even though it's 10 or so bucks cheaper. i hope i could help :X

A killer-sounding large condenser/preamp on a budget :

(1) Studio Projects B1 LDC @ $85
(1) AudioBuddy stereo preamp @ $70
Grand total is only $155.

You could go true stereo if you bought another B1 (two total)... grand total @ $240.

If you decided to buy the stereo package, you'll be able to not only record a vocal, but you've got a stereo acoustic piano setup, acoustic guitar, any type of acoustic bass instrument, strings, woodwinds, brass, electric guitar amp, drum or room stereo mains or stereo overheads... you'll be able to capture the sound of any type of thing that you can strum, blow through, whack in any way, shake, rattle squeeze or roll... or any other stereo audio choir you want to take on.

Good luck!

the sm57 and sm58 are basically the same mic.....i wouldnt sell a sm58 and turn around and get a sm58.....

if you are that short on cash, i wouldnt go further than a Studio Projects B1 or Marshall MXLv67B, both $79.....

??

do i need a preamp?

it's included in my mixer.. and i was going to use all my money on the mic.

why doesn't studio projects b1 come with a shock mount?..

T_T

there goes another 30$

hey..

anyone tried

[Stageworks]
LD1 Studio Microphone??

how's this?.. just wondering.. first time i saw it..

hew.. this is hard..

I AM leaning towards the B1 though.. how is it compared to C1?

does it have a big lack of quality compared to c1?..

hm.. please help a broken bum out guys..

Just get the B1. From what I've heard you can't go wrong at $79. If you want an idea of what it sounds like, listen to the recording on the thread 'Studio Projects B1 recording' by Robertt8. It's on the same page as this thread. If that doesn't work for you then go for the MXL v67. I use this particular mic and find it works really well on my voice.

What Kid Klash said. A sensible, versatile, cheap combo. Make sure if you buy 2 Studio Projects mics, ask for 2 with the same color dots on the boxes, they are claimed to be at least partially matched. This is a great time to be poor and want gear. Try it 15 years ago. It's amazing how cheap believable gear is getting. Enjoy.-Richie

The UB series (much as I hate to admit it :)) have been evaluated by
a number of end users as being comparable to the Mackie VLZ Pro pre's.
They actually use an op amp slightly superior to the Mackie mixers.
The smaller Behringers and Mackies also sound better than the larger
ones due to the circuitry being less burdened as it's on a smaller scale.
FWIW, if it were me, I'd hold off on the pre and get a nice LD condenser
like the B1 and/or the V67 and call it a day (for now!).
You may want to take some of the money saved to get some moving
blankets since a condenser mike will pick up your room ambience more.

The B1 is a very neutral sounding mike, the C1 has a vintage flavor to it.
The B1 is now my "go to" microphone for vocal practice since it "tells it
like it is" so well. They complement one another IMHO.
The B series have an internal shockmount BTW.

Chris

are you sure about the shockmount?

so i don't need shockmounts for the b series?

all the internet shops have a shockmount as an option for the item..

oh, and by the way, is

Foam wind screen

different than a

Pro Pop screen filter w/ goose neck ??

oh and instead of buying a C1, I'm thinking about buying 2 B1's..

how's this sound?..

and if i sell my small mixer, i'll get an audio buddy..

huh? huh?

you don't need a shockmount if you are recording yourself in your bedroom..A shockmount is needed if there is are viberations that can be transmited up the micstand..for the most part you prob. can getaway without one..Good luck

Don

thanks

what about the foam wind screen..?

are those the same stuff?..

the pop filter + shock mount = $$ B1..

kinda crazy..

hew-

I'd get the Pop filter {the one with the gooseneck}.Or make one from Pantyhose and a wire clothshanger and duct tape it to your micstand..The foam windscreen dosn't do much..unless its windy outside IMHO..Good luck
