Hello all,
Two and half months ago i started this beautiful journey of music production. I googled, you-tubed, read articles about recording music, mixing, mastering and all and i have recorded and mixed a cover song by Ben Howard.

I would like to get some opinions from senior/ experienced members on the attached demo recording.
This is the first mix i have done through my ATH-M50X headphone plus apple Ear Pod and i am sure i have to make some other versions as well before heading toward my originals. I want to hear from some good ear on this as i am just a beginner and you guys are better than me.. Any advice/ Suggestions/ compliments i get would benefit me as a learning guy.

(Attached demo is just the 50% of recording)
Please share your views.
Thanks a lot. Cheers

I'm not sure I'm qualified, but someone has to break the ice. You've done an excellent job! The guitars and vocal are each in their own space. The two guitar tracks have slightly different EQs, making them distinct.
The guitars need some air. Beautiful performance and good capture. Just needs that touch of high end (11-12k shelf, maybe +2-2.5 dB, possibly down as low as 8k). Let 'em shine.
The voice is recorded well. Voice is a very subjective area. These sound pleasant without extreme sibilants or harsh frequencies. Some of the S's are a little overdone, but sound very natural. Good use of breath capture, also very natural sounding. I'd leave it as is.

Thank you Broken_H :)

Though i mixed it on my headphone (which sounded fine), Last night i tried to listened it through my old computer speaker and i think the sound was not so rich like they used to sound on my headphones. I felt that something was missing from the tracks(Like as if the Salt was missing from a beautiful dish :P)..
I would like to know how they sound on a good studio monitor (which i will get on 2017)

Thanks

My review is based on my M-Audios (and a couple passes in the HD380s). Maybe not top of the line, but at least a step above the bottom... :)

Thanks for stopping by and for your review mate. I really appreciate.
Cheers :)

I thought this sounded wonderful. Tasteful playing and singing.

A couple of minor things...

The guitar has just a bit of wooliness. I'm thinking a notch EQ cut somewhere in the 400hz-600hz range. But not much. Maybe a very small presence boost - like in the 6khz range. Fairly wide, but very small. Like 1-2 dbs.

The vocal sounded pretty nice. Had a bit of a cheap mic sound. It was much dryer than the guitar. I'd add a small amount of room or ambiance reverb to it. But a very small amount.

Just small changes is all I'd suggest.

edit: I don't know if you intended to chop off the ending or not. But the ending was chopped off.

Hey Chuku, your vocal gave me goosebumps at times, which is a great sign you're being sincere when singing. It's a #1 trait for me; I'll turn off a mix where I can't feel the singer is genuine and truly into it and would take a flawed vocal over an insincere vocal any day.

The mix sounds great. Maybe on the overall mix take out a little 400hz or add like 1db of top end sparkle. I'm talking like the "mastering" phase, so for the entire mix. If you want you can try to fix it in the mix, but it's so minor I'd do it at that stage. I think it's coming from a buildup in the acoustic guitars lower mids.

Crap, I should have read the comments first...I just looked up above mine and saw 3M said basically the same exact thing...lol.

Well, OP, you now know it's on several systems so it's a real thing. It's very minor, though, so don't go redoing everything and just make the minor tweaks and be done.

Hey Thank you Triple M & Nola. I really appreciate your feedback.

I don't know why but i was thinking of redoing the overall things again.I have a feeling that something is missing. The Guitars, Vocals and then the Mixing everything (But now Thanks 3M & Nola that i will just be tweaking around like you suggested :))..
It sounds balanced while i am listening through my headphone(on which i mix) but sounds not same on my computer speaker and Bluetooth speaker that i have..

Thanks again :)

NOOOO!!! Don't redo it. It's very detailed and intimate as it is. Just a little eq and ambience as suggested. Match the reverb of the guitars with the vocal. Good job.
