Help me not lose my sonar songs!

I just upgraded my computer and did a reinstall of XP. So all my programs stayed on, but now most dont work. Which is fair enough. But i dont want to take risks with Sonar, id die if i lost all my songs! So what i want to know is...if i just reinstall Sonar...will my songs(which are in cakewalk projects folder) get deleted or overidden? What is the best way to get it all back on track?

A reinstall of Sonar should not affect any existing recorded material (assuming you do not manually delete any directories or files).

However, if you want to be super-safe, back up the project folders/files to a CD-RW or to another hard drive.
 
Important, Dont forget that if you use anything but cwb (bundle format) the audio can be saved in a different directory than the project files so saving the project files without the audio is a definite NO NO!!. you can first save any files as cwb files and then save them to cd's . just for insurance.

You probably need to search for your audio files for the projects that wont work at present.

How did you save your files? 'per project' or bundle files?

When i made a new project i just put in the name of it. I have a Cakewalk projects folder which contains the names of all the songs..in cwp format. Then there is a Audio data folder that has all the waves in it. So its not per project or Bun i guess. So if i just totally reinstall Sonar..that folder should stay intact im hoping.
SHit! All my effects will be gone too wont they?!
 
like dach' said, it shouldnt affect anything as for as existing song files go. I have re-installed Sonar XL several times after adding other software like dxi`s, the B4 is a finicky one. It went without a hitch every time. You just have to re-profile your soundcard and possibly reselect you inputs and outputs for midi.
 
You could backup the aud.ini file in the Sonar directory, and copy it back after the reinstall. Then even all your settings would be intact (directories and such)... ;)
 
partition your harddisk next time

keep that primary as small as possible ...
I've got a clean XP ghost image of +- 500 mb with all the apps I need preinstalled
which I can reinstall in 5 minutes ...
but you have to partition your harddisk for that and install large programs on d:/program files/ etc....
that keeps your prim small and when reinstalling the application again it usually keeps the config files of the program you need ...

I know its doesnt help you now but its good advice for your next upgrade/reinstall...
 
Cool! Thanks for the help guys! I'll copy the folder for backup and then try reinstalling and see how that goes. Should be right though...cheers!
