i have to write an english paper about a profession,

and i need to use a book source and an internet source..

i want to write about musicians, of course, and what other site better than this one to ask about music? hehe

so if any of you pro musicians out there see this please help me out with these questions..

oh and by the way, my instrument is my voice, and i'm into soul and R&B, and i'm a junior in high school

1. how do i find out which college is best for me, what do i need to apply for a college of music and how do i find more information?
2. Is there anything I can do in high school to prepare for college?
3. What are the job opportunities like and will I be making enough money to continue what i'm doing?
4.how do i find out if i have what it take to be a person involved in the music industry?

I hope people will help me with these questions and I thank you guys in advance.-

I'll be waiting for your replys, after all, i need to finish it by tomorrow.

Lesson #1..... always leave yourself plenty of time to finish your English paper.................

aww... come on..

i know i should have done it earlier,

i was caught up in this production..

PLEASE HELP

Start your homework earlier dammit!

These kinda sound like questions that you can answer YOURSELF after doing some RESEARCH...and since when do you ask people to help you and say "Oh I need it done by tomorrow"...??? Geeeez!

Have a dig around the college sites, I don't know anything about the places where you're from but sometimes those sites have a section for people applying straight from highschool. I would imagine this would be useful stuff. Also, there are usually 'good university guide' books put out, I guess they would have a site with this kinda info on it too (well they do in Australia). They have ratings and summaries of what each university has to offer. What you SHOULD have done, if you had worked on this a bit earlier, is called some studios and asked their recommendations and what they looked for when they were hiring staff. In the end it all comes down to what exactly it is that you want to do in the music industry - various places would have reputations for being the best at various stuff.

I hope for your sake that someone else helps you here cause I am certainly not a music professional (I did a degree in visual arts so its not even close). Use the net as much as you can...next time bloody well ask for help sooner and you might get some useful answers...

(By the way, have you thought of using the 'search' option...? I'm sure these kinds of careers questions have been asked somewhere before and you might dig up the info you need)

I'm no pro...but I went to school for music for a little while. My main instrument used to be trumpet & voice. Now it's really just voice. I suck at pretty much everything else anymore. Here are my thoughts:

1. Google - search for "school of music + location you are interested in"

2. If your voice is your only instrument, I would suggest learning another one. Piano would be a nice start. Get lessons if you can. You will have to pass theory & piano proficiency classes more than likely. Piano is a good start for both of these.

3. If you are dead set on making a living in the music business, be prepred for years of sacrifice and eating Ramin Noodles, if you are lucky. That is why I'm a CPA. To make it in any profession takes sacrifice, but it seems more drastic in music. I think that's because everyone and his crippled monkey wants to be in the business. Job opportunities are slim and competition is fearce. Unless you want to teach. Nothing wrong with that. I have known (and played with) several HS music teachers who have made nice lives for themselves in small towns...teaching & playing in bands on the weekend. Actually one of them really sucked :D.

4. Trial by fire. I decided after a couple years of studying music and looking at what it took to "make it" I didn't have the stomach for it. Talent, maybe...but I like a steak once in awhile :D

Later

It's too late, Jagular...

Today is the day after "tomorrow"...

:D :D :D

thanks a lot

i really appriciate it..

though i've already handed in the essay and presented,

it still is nice to know.

again, thanks a lot..

PS I'm trying to teach myself piano..

do you know any good books?

right now i'm just playing scores of some songs i know..
