Hey guys, just build myself a new PC and I want to get myself going as far as some home recording, I have some experience through friends and such.

I have a Casio WK-3300 that I am looking to buy a midi cable for, though I am looking for the best input device for my PC, whether it be a sound card, or external module?

Through this device, whether it be the sound card or external midi control, I am looking to record some acoustic guitar and light vocals..would it be acceptable to do this on a high-frequency PC mic? Nothing special, just a decent quality logitech.

Thanks everyone and hello!

Hi, and welcome,
First, what kind of budget are you working with?
You need to consider your audio/midi interface, as it will be your main link between your instruments/microphone and your computer. Shop around online and brick and mortar retailers to find what will suit your needs, and fit your budget. you might find that a portable like a Boss BR600 or a small handheld which have onboard mics fit the bill for grabbing ideas, and then transfer them to a multitrack freebie like Audacity.
On the other hand, if you are going to be doing intensive multitrack recording, editing and sequencing, then an interface like the EMU 1616 or an Mbox with bundled software to get you going, with the option to upgrade at a reduced price might be for you.
In either case, capturing the the sound in a useable form is absolutely dependent on the quality of the signal chain, which starts with your microphone. An outstanding mic for the price is the Shure SM57, not so much for vocals, but definitely for recording acoustic guitar and electrics through an amp.
Whatever you decide, have fun with it. 'Cause that's what making music is about.
