How are you recording your vocals....I can't make them out at all. A lot of distortion and low volume is killing that.

Give us the details, software, software plugins if any, hardware used, mics, mixers?

First, lets get your vocals on point and then we can figure out hwo to tweak them for the best sound possible.

My vocals, Im using a MXL 990 condensor mic, M-audio mobile pre soundcard interface, and i use adobe audition for recording.

i record like this"

t1: lay tha beat down

t2: record vocals

t3: record double

t4: adlib double

i am havin a lot of trouble figuring out the volume .

yeah..they seam a little low..really cant hear whats goin on..

Your M-Audio mobile pre is a preamp right?

Also, when you record your vocals are you checking your volume meters in audition? I use Cubase SX myself and it's been a while since I looked at Audition (or Cool Edit Pro as it used to be).

Are you connecting that mobile pre into a standard soundcard? If you are that might be 80% of the problem right there since ordinary PC soundcards can't handle vocals like that. I have a M-Audio Delta 44 soundcard that connects into a break box that my mixer, compressor, preamp, and mics all come in to. The Delta 44 runs about $150.

As for how you're recording, it's hard to say because everybody has their own method of madness that works for them. I record similar to the way you do except I copy/paste the first vocal and give a very small amount of delay to it. Then I take the vocals on the second take and copy/paste it and pan one semi-hard left and the other semi-hard right. I leave my adlibs in center and then mix it all down verse by verse. I'm still working on mixing my vocals better though.

Fie.

first make sure the phantom power light is on on your m-audio card.
second seems obvious but youd be surprised. check to make sure your using the front of the mic and not the back
sounds a little phasey are you panning both your lead and adlibs? try listening during your breakdown the vocals get cleaner. what that tells me is your mix is to busy pan guitars here lead sound there etc carve space for your vocals
i like the pitched down effect good luck dont stop tryin
