Hello folks,

Maybe you can help me make up my mind or help me avoid making a big mistake on whether to buy the Yamaha MD8 or the Tascam 788, or something else but these two are the ones I have been looking at. I am really having a difficult time deciding between the two.

I get to where I think I have made up my mind and then I read a post or hear a comment that starts me thinking again. I would like your honest opinions, pros and cons of the two. I currently use a Tascam 424MKII and would like to take the next step up ! I want somthing that is easy to use, reliable and has great sound quality.

OPINIONS PLEASE !!!!

Thanks in advance for your time and help, I value your advice.

Sincerely
Pier Calacino

I'd take the 788 over the MD8. But if I were going to spend ~1K and go digital, I'd get an ADAT and use the 424's mixer until I saved up for a Mackie 1402.

of the two: 788 no question. with the yamaha you've got your hands tied up much more when it comes to mix down, sound quality, recording media etc. MD Data discs aren't the most popular media, making them harder to get and pricier than they should be. i have a feeling they're on their way out. if so, it won't be the funniest machine to have around the house in the future.

there are a bunch of other stuff in the same neighborhood as the 788. have a look at fostex and korg for example.

Pier Calacino,

I have a 788, and am very satisfied with it. However, you can go a an online forum and ask question of 788 users and a tascam professional. Just go to www.tascam.com and click on the picture of the 788, then look for "online forum".

Sorry to those of you who have read me saying this in other threads. Broken record...
