I can't say for sure if anyone here will be able to answer this question or if I'm even posting in the proper forum, but since I am in college these days it is difficult to A) find a teacher to get guitar lessons from and B) find reliable transportation to and from lessons. So, I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a book or video that I might be able to learn from. My hope is to gain some skills in playing lead. I would consider myself an intermediate guitarist because I don't need to learn the basics really anymore. I'm looking more to improve my speed and technique as well as learn scales and soloing. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. And if you think this should be in a different forum, just let me know...

The answer to your questions is the same as the answer to every question around here - IT DEPENDS - give us a bit more info on what style of guitar you're trying to learn and someone might be able to give you a better answer. I mean, there's lead and there's lead - Chuck Berry or Steve Vai and all points in between.

Why don't you head down to a major music store and see what they have there - I don't know what books cost in your part of the world but in comparison to what you're likely to spend on a guitar it's probably a relatively minor amount.

Buy a couple you like the looks of and go from there - you'll learn something.

Give us an idea of what style you'd like to play and I'm sure our learned colleagues will be able to help you.

Cheers

Hey Clad,
I have not actually used this method myself, but I have picked up a lot of interesting insights and pointers from the website.

you might wanna check it out.

Best of luck!

Browse on over to Music Dispatch, a company that seems to have a training book/tape/DVD for every requirement, including yours, probably. I haven't bought from them, mosty cause I have a backlog of training materials (they're easier to buy this stuff than to master it). For my needs--accoustic blues--I've gotten stuff from Homespun Tapes. Also, there are a bunch of guitar web sites to consult. Consider visting guitar.com, and asking your question in their forums.
