Got some really basic recording equipment and and iam getting a really annoying buzz/hum noise from the mics.

Got Gatt Audio DM-100 mics (Know there cheap) lol.
and a little mixer.

Thing is when talking into the mics they sound alright, good enough for what iam wanting anyways, but there is this really annoying buzzing that gets recorded aswell.

Iam recording into a Mac using garage band, tried using logic aswell but same problem.
Any help would be appreciated in lehmanns terms as i kinda know very little! :)

Thanks

probably just cheap mics try using a noise gate that may help a bit

You do have XLR cables from your microphones to your little mixer right?

And where is your interface in your recording line? Tell me you have one.

Yea we got everything plugged into the mixer ok and the mixer into the mac but theres still a buzzing.

Does this have anything to do with mic frequencies or anything like that?

No your using your sound card in your computer -poop-
You must have an interface.

If you're using the interface that came with your computer (i.e. soundcard), it's likely a major contributor. Probably providing plug in power that only adds to the noise issue. But it really depends on what you mean by buzzing. The aforementioned is more of a "hiss". Buzzing to me is grounding issues, or interference from electrical power supplies and/or lighting. Some florescent lighting is known to inject sound into some things. i.e. Guitar strings and other things. Some of these new-ish LED light bulbs buzz as well. I have a 75W equiv one ($45) that buzzes, but it's mainly only audible within 18" of the thing. But my mics hear better than I do. And other potential sources of noise / interference. i.e. talking on your cell phone while recording and such.

Check to make sure you have all your equipment plugged into the same outlet.
