They were probably talking MSRP's, not street prices. Gift horse and all that. Be glad you got what you did - I doubt you're gonna get any more. :)

Gift horse et al?
Please don't misunderstand.
I am soooooo very thankful for what I have been awarded.

In the world of business, if you own a company, advertise a contest that promises to give away products you produce and you fudge on your promise, it's your own image you tarnish per se and you deal with it personally and business-wise. You lose some customers.

However, if you own a company and advertise a contest that includes sponsors and/or equipment with names like Steinberg/Cubase, IK Multimedia, and SoniVox as well as Audio-Technica, On-Stage and even Marshall amplification, AND YOU FUDGE?

The word gets around really fast in this industry as it is relatively small and focused plus with the internet? You can do some serious damage to your reputation and end up fairly ostracized or at least in a position you don't really want to be in.

I did check "Advertised vs MSRP" on all 3. Brings IK up only $200, brings Cubase up only $200 and brings Muse up only $100. Still a $2200 difference.

Oh please. You beg us to stuff your ballot box, then you come here to whine that you didn't win enough stuff. Remind me why I should care?

I use Steinberg products every day in my business, they work fine without griping. You serve no similar purpose to me.

Enjoy paying taxes on your winnings, and get over yourself and this spam thread of yours.

Looks like 2 and 7 happened. I don't know if 3 did, but one person here posted that they voted for you twice and you thanked them for it, which may violate 3 in spirit.

They do indicate in their June 19th post that $5,000 in prizes will be awarded to a grand prize winner; they also note several times that they have the right to change how prizes are distributed and indicate that "5,000 total in gear will be awarded".

I read the rules a number of times and could never figure them out as in why would you say you are going to do something then say that you are not going to do something? You are right, however, in that they could just say "we are done!"

And yes, "Charlie" did say he voted twice but it's hard to tell on this site whether he was joking or otherwise. It could have been said in jest just to make me worry that I might be disqualified. There are clearly those here who do stuff like that for fun.

Nonetheless, I have the utmost regard for the folks at Gearwire and am quite sure they will do the right thing. :D

Perhaps they wanted to leave flexibility for how they determined a winner in case any thing happened intentionally or otherwise to skew the voting, violate the spirit of the contest and/or otherwise influence the course of the contest.

IMHO they did and they did so very much in accordance with their stated rules. This contest had a noble and excellent goal. More people were recognized-- three people received free stuff for helping strangers on the internet.

I sent Gearwire a heads up about this thread. I personally am tired of it, but they have the right to know what is being said about them.

Thanks for making me aware of the contest though-- I voted for inverseroom

As a TapeOp magazine contributor, I bet he could have won this contest by a landslide if he posted a similar thread on this or another message board, but I bet he would have never even considered doing so.

well, despite a bit of foot in the mouth, which i deserved for trying to sneak in a dig due to my disagreement with this thread (and now the other in fairness) i do believe that these are still central issues.

sorry for quoting myself. :o

Thanks all!!!! :D
Your insight has clarified how Gearwire does have the final say and I appreciate the comments here pointing out their possible perspectives and their possible trains of thought.
It obviously has been a weird process for me.
I am not comprehending it well, I guess.

FYI, Jon. I have addressed the same exact issues directly with Gearwire, but I do appreciate your candid comments.
They will have the final say nonetheless.
