Hey.

I have an old school Sure 585SB mic. Its all silver and has a silver ball windscreen. Problem is that it has no plug at the end, its just 2 loose wires hanging there. Anyone have any idea how to fix this? I tried soldering the 2 up to an RCA cable cause I just had one lying around, but the RCA had 2 wires and a ground. Needless to say, this did not work. Any ideas? Thanks.

Oh ya. Does anyone know anything about this mic. Year? Cost? Uses? Thanks.

Yep, have the same exact mic. It was my brother's. I have had it since about 1974 or so, and believe he had it for a while. Don't really know cost, quality etc. BUT. I also have the original cable for it. No XLR. It's a TS unbalanced jack. I think that speaks for cost and quality. Mine has alot of sentimental value and I use it for a desk mic! Yack @ ya later.

Hey engineear. Thanks for the reply.

Im still tryin to get this sucker workin. What do you mean by TS unbalanced jack? The person who dropped this mic on me said he remembered the jack being similar to an RCA, he could be wrong though? Basically, where can I get a TS unbalanced or will an RCA cable attached to the wires work? Thanks.

(looks at old shure product guide) if, in fact, this mic is the same one that radio shack sold as their highball-2 mics (and it looks identical), and uses a TS plug (like a guitar cable-tip and sleeve), or even if it is similar, it's possible that one wire is ground and the others are for 2 different output impedences. that's what they're for on my highball-2. give wiring different ways on a ts a try. btw, i'd go ahead and stay with the ts configuration-you're more likely to be able to use it with something, in my opinion, that is fun or rewarding in some way than if you use rca, which these days are mostly used in component stereo equip (and unless you have a phono or preferably mic switch on that input, you're not going to get much sound at all). there are plenty of exceptions to that rule, but i have lots of audio toys, and 0 mics with rca plugs, for a reason. just putting in my two cents ;)
