I don't know what the hell is going on. I downloaded this the other day and placed it on my desktop. I ran it, now I'm trying to delete it. It say's the file is being used and can't delete it. What the f!@# It is not being used. Rebooting hasn't help either. Neither has shuting down all running apps/process/services I can't get rid of it.

[Edit]

I just downloaded it again into C:\temp and didn't run it. Can't delete it. Says the file is in use. What the F@!!@ $#@

Hey HangDawg - Try booting into safe mode (f8) and try to remove it from there..

Strange,

I just deleted it - restored it - deleted it again - without any issues......

it sounds to me like you have an issue larger than modecalc.

Maybe so, but what? I'm sort of knowledgeable when it comes to computers. I'm a network admin (8 years) and a certified DBA. I've never seen anything like this happen before. I'm stumped. I'm going to try a DOS boot disk and go from there I guess.

Dawg,

ModeCalc is a simple DOS program, and it doesn't get installed or do anything else to your computer. It just sits in a folder on your hard drive waiting to be run. I agree with Rod that your problem is elsewhere.

I know this. I just can't figure out what would cause this. It's mighty strange to say the least.

Being an admin, I thought you would have checked the file's permissions/ownership first...

I didn't post all the things I did do especially the really obvious ones like file permissions. But thanks for the suggestion none the less. It's still there. The only thing that I remember that was similar to this was a file name with an invalid character.

not sure what os you are on... go to a command prompt run attrib on it and then try to delete from the command prompt. go to the dir where it is and try attrib -R -A -S -H {filename} that will remove any additional properties that might possibly be causing this issue. then try del /F {filename} .just my 2 cents.

No dice.

I did finally get rid of it using a utility I found called copy lock. It aparently uses api calls to delete files even if they are being used. A reboot was required but it's gone. I've never had anything like this happen before on this or any other machine.

Mode Calc Nightmare

I'm having the exact same problem. I'm a big fan of Ethan's pages and downloaded Modecalc when I was writing a physics module on my Sound Engineering course.

Now I'm stuck with it for all eternity...

I have no idea what the problem is, but it's not related to ModeCalc. It probably has to do with permissions and administrator settings. You could always boot into DOS from a diskette and delete it manually.

Copy Lock is now called Locked Files Wizard and is available as freeware - you can download it here:
