I'm looking to buy a DI input for my guitar, to record. I'm just starting out to record, and I was wondering what would be a good DI unit for me to buy (cheap but decent). Also, I have two guitars... would it be possible to get one unit for the both of these?

Please help me out.

Cheers,
Stan

I've found Countryman makes a good somewhat inexpensive DI, i.e. under $200. They're are a generally well regarded classic DI and it sounds better than some of the cheaper ones I have. Stewart, Art and Rolls. Although the Stewarts aren't too bad either. The countryman seems to pass bass frequencies better than the cheaper models I have and compares pretty well to my little labs and avalon di's. Good for the price to performance ratio in my humble opinion. Cheers!

Thanks for your replies

xstatic: My idea of cheap is probably 100 and below... and that's Aust. Dollars, so probably about 70 and below?

someguy: I'll have a look into it, thanks for the suggestions.

Any other sugguestions? I want a cheap DI, but I don't want to resort to a Behringer DI...

ART tube MP- good DI, OK mic pre

ART X Direct

used Whirlwind Hotbox

used Rapco ADB+8

used BSS AR116- very good DI if you can score one on ebay

The used ones I listed I have seen around $75 US on ebay, the ART ones are less that that new.

If you can snag a cheap Palmer PDI-03 it's a great buy. Expensive in the US, a lot cheaper in Europe. I got mine from the factory in Germany and it was around €200 - so a second hand on eBay should come in a lot cheaper. It's a speaker simulator so you can DI and still sound like you are playing through a cab - I find it helps me to record DI but not sound DI. Check em out.

Superhuman, thanks for the suggestion, but I'm really strapped on cash and I don't need the simlutor, I use a Sansamp GT2 which seems to do a good enough job atm. Thanks for replying :)

Whats your idea of cheap? Take a look at the BSS AR133 DI, or a radial DI.
I second the vote for the BSS AR-133. I have 5 of them here; they are built like tanks and perform like champs.

Get one used in your price range instead of a cheapo one brand new.

Thanks for your reply SouthSIDE Glen. I'll try and look for one that's in my range :)

The rapco db 101 sounds good to my ears neutrik connetors, jensen transformer, cheap. Like 20-30 bucks last I remember.
