Hi there. I need some opinions on the M-Audio Duo. Its a toss up between that, and the digidesign Mbox. They seem to do the same thing, and both have mic pre's and phantom power, which is all I need. And the both record @ 24 bits. The only difference I notice is, price, and software. The Mbox comes with protools, which is awesome, and I don't know what the duo comes with. Anyone??

So what would you buy?

what i heard is mbox is easier to use, and pro tools is not bad either

If you already have a multitracker that you are comfortable with, then go with the M-Audio Duo......

Mbox comes with pro tools lite if im not mistaken.

and the mbox has had some issues with power and networking, particularly in laptops.

I dont know about the duo, might have the same issues i dunno never used it.

isnt that free protools a windows 98 to 2000 deal? i have xp...

I'm not sure, future man..... (I don't use that version of ProTools).

But.... can't you make WIN XP open the program as if it were WIN 98 or 2000?

if there is... i don't know how. does anyone know about how to do that?

Cant tell you off the top of my head where to find it, but there is a selection within WIN XP where you can change the program to work in 95, 98, 2k compatability mode. I did that for a version of MS Office one time.
