WELL THEN...I recently purchased the Tascam US-1641 and it came with Cubase LE5. I actually got everything working perfectly last night, but I go to start it up this morning and it's not working correctly.

The problem is that when i click the record track button in cubase it doesn't record anything. It's not picking up any of the sound even though the light indicators on my interface show that the microphone is picking up sound. And then once I hit the record button to stop the track recording, the whole "silent" recorded track disappears anyway...I went back through noticed my device wasn't set up as it should be, tried that to no avail.

Edit: And I just tried something and said the inputs were "unmapped"?????

Anybody have any clue what might be going on?

Don't know what I did but it's working now. Hopefully I won't have any more issues

Have you looked at your VST Connections page. This is one of the downsides to Cubase, that you have to go to the Device Setup page, then the VST connections page. Seems redundant to me. That's the only thing I can think of....

good luck,

yea I did, and it's all setup like it should be, this is really starting to get on my nerves. I'm spending almost an hour every time I want to record anything just for it to be able to recognize the microphone signal. Just started it up this morning and it's doing the exact same thing as yesterday....

and the weird thing is I only get that message after I set up the connections...Just tried it in garage band and had the same issue, it's not recognizing the sound.

Hmmm, try reinstalling the drivers for your tascam.

will do, thats the only thing I can even think of left to do.

edit: well that seemed to do it, it worked the first time after I re-installed everything. Hopefully that's the end of it. lol

Appreciate the reply Chilli

Still having huge issues with the consistency of this interface. Sometimes it decides to work and then other times it doesn't, really getting frustrating.

It also now will not let me update the firmware, it stops mid update and says it failed and to reconnect the device...Emailed Tascam and they seemed to think I was making these things up lol. I don't think I have ever been this frustrated =/

I feel your pain, I've been having the exact same problem with mine, using it with a MacBook, the only solution I can find is to quit and restart cubase and make sure to plug in the interface before switching it on. Not exactly satisfactory. I've also been having a problem where the click doesn't sound, even though it's switched on. I can hear all the recorded tracks - just no click and I can't find a way to route my click in case that's the problem. Be very interested to hear if anyone found a way round these problems..

Sounds to me like a computer setup issue. Like it is swapping sound devices. I only know PC, but is there a way on the Mac to disable the internal soundcard so that the 1641 is the only device as default sound. I know pc can have issues with this sometimes.

For the firmware deal, have you tried using another USB port and or cable? Seems strange that it is not communicating to complete the firmware instal. If your 1641 has the old firmware installed, it will not work correctly.

For the click problem, check your VST Connections page on the Outputs tab. There shoul dbe a column marked click. Select where you want the click routed to. You can't imagine how long it took me to figure that one out.

Also, welcome to the site. :)

i have a different unit but when that happens to me i found that i need to turn on the unit , then put it in audio interface mode , then open cubase.

cubase le5 not showing signal on computer

I am guessing that I may not have the correct sound driver on my computer to proccess sound thru my new lexicon interface. Downloaded Cubase on computer, went to vst set up, selected Lexicon in and out but it wont show any meters on input signal on cubase when playing audio thru interface. Also says not active on duplex out put on vst connection.Am I being stupid or is there a reason:o

solution

HI
i had the same problem i have a ZOOM R24 so i solved it by changing the settings on my sound card from 96khz to 44.1 khz.
It was quite easy as at the start up i have a option to reset the settings from my scard.
hope it helped.

I've had the same problem with cubase 5 LE on my PC w/ windows 8.
Usually shut down and restart of cubase solves the problem for me. I don't know why it does this.
It does it consistantly enough to know to restart it but not enough to make me want to scrap using it.
